So there’s a 64.5% chance we’ll be getting a “Downton Abbey” movie

In the States, Downton Abbey is nearing its final episodes. However, creator Julian Fellowes just gave us hope that it might not really be goodbye after all. In an interview with Radio Times, he didn’t just hint that a movie might be in the works, he gave us exact statistics.

“I’m completely up for a movie,” he explained. “I’d love to do a movie. I think it would be good fun but there are all sorts of things that have to be settled…The percent chance of making the film is about 64.5.”

That sounds pretty promising, in fact, he’s well on his way to knowing exactly what it would be about. “I think I know what the spine of a story for a film would be. I think it would be fun, in a sense, because we’d be making it on a film budget.”

This news is music to the ears of Downton fans, who were previously under the impression that a movie was not in the cards after Fellowes expressed uneasiness about the idea. “Normally they’re not very good,” he said of TV-to-film adaptations. “Because the film producer says, ‘Oh, it’s not going to be anything like the series,’ and of course what you want is for it to be exactly like the series. I hope we would avoid that error in doing one, but I do have mixed feelings about it.”

We’re confident that a Downton Abbey movie would be everything we want and more, no matter how the cast and crew decide to approach it. Our only hope is that our favorite characters get the happily ever after they truly deserve.
