6 reasons why Emma Watson is my role model

Emma Watson has been the perfect girl role model since she began playing the young Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies. Hermione taught a generation of young people to admire intelligence. Not only was she an intellectual badass, she was also passionate, caring, focused, loyal, and witty. And if we thought the fictional character Emma played was our ideal example of being a girl, the real person is somehow even better. Here are just a few reasons why Emma Watson inspires me on the regular.

She lets us know we can do and be whatever we want.

There is simply no need to have your life dictated by someone else, you are capable to do whatever you want with your life. It is your life don’t let other people decide for you. “Don’t let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do or achieve. Do what you want to do and be who you want to be. Just encourage and include each other, don’t ostracize the gender in front of you.” (Facebook Q&A)

She knows that being smart is not a bad thing.

Sometimes there is a temptation to lower yourself to avoid intimidating a guy. If he cannot handle how strong and intelligent you are, he is not right for you.

She reminds us we can be beautiful and fierce.

Emma is an excellent example of what girls and women today can be, not skinny little toys for others to play with, but thoughtful and strong weapons ready to change the world. “You know, I feel like young girls are told that they have to be this kind of princess and be all delicate and fragile, and it’s bullsh*t. I identified much more with the idea of being a warrior, and being a fighter… I think women are scared of feeling powerful and strong and brave, and I think that’s something they’ve got to embrace.” (HitFix)

She fights for equality.

“Call me a ‘diva’, call me a ‘feminazi’, call me ‘difficult’, call me a ‘First World feminist’, call me whatever you want, it’s not going to stop me from trying to do the right thing and make sure that the right thing happens. Because it doesn’t just affect me, it affects all the other women who are in this with me, and it affects all the other men who are in this with me, too.” (Esquire UK)

She lets us know we don’t have to follow the crowd.

There is something so incredibly freeing about not caring what people think of you. It a long and difficult journey to get to that point, certainly, but the more steps we take towards not minding other people’s opinions the more freedom we find.

She accepts not being perfect.

For someone who seems so obviously perfect, Emma is incredibly human in the way she speaks about herself. Emma understands that was is most important is loving yourself. “I don’t have perfect teeth, I’m not stick thin. I want to be the person who feels great in her body and can say that she loves it and doesn’t want to change anything.” (Elle UK)

Emma Watson, you hero. Keep inspiring us please.
