6 best things about Donald Glover’s ‘Atlanta’ so far
Ok, so we’ve already shared with you reasons why Donald Glover’s Atlanta should’ve been on your watch list prior to its debut. From having an all black writer’s room, to tackling real issues the black community faces on a daily basis, Atlanta is definitely deserving of its high ratings and pleasant reviews. And after obsessing over the first few episodes, we compiled a follow up list to prove why it’s probably one best things on television today.
1. It's giving us REAL Atlanta.
Everything from ordering wings from ATL’s hotspot, JR Crickets, to the music, the writers are meshing all of Atlanta’s true nuances into the show.
2. #blackgirlmagic is in the building.
Vanessa having natural hair, or wearing her headscarf to bed may not seem like a big deal to some, but every black girl fan of the show can relate to this tiny moment all too well. We are represented, and it feels good.
3. Donald Glover is an awesome actor, and his castmates complement him well.
Paperboy (Brian Tyree Henry) and Darius (Keith Stanfield) are already fan favorites, and their comedic timing is perfect.
4. The writers aren't afraid to address black cultural taboos.
The jail scene between the black man and his trans-female lover inspired a healthy internet discussion about transphobia in the black community, and we have Atlanta writers to thank for that.
5. Van and Earn's situationship is television gold.
They have a child, live in the same house, sleep in the same bed, yet they aren’t official. We don’t know about you, but this screams “drama” to us and we can’t wait to see this dynamic play out.
6. Earn is very, very broke, but his ambition is priceless.
We’re definitely intrigued to see how and when he gets his big break. But until then, watching his journey is super inspiring to all of us.
Needless to say, we adore this show!
