This 5-year-old’s act of kindness in a Waffle House is melting our hearts
Who has bigger hearts than kids? That’s a question we’re asking once again after being totally awed by 5-year-old Josiah Duncan, whose act of kindness in an Alabama Waffle House was deep, real and unexpected.
Recently, Duncan and his mom, Ava Faulk, were headed into the Waffle House, when Josiah noticed a man who seemed in need (kids pick up on these things really quickly) and grew concerned about his well-being.”Where is his house? Where is his family? Where does he keep his groceries?” Josiah asked his mother, according to WSFA.
When Ava told Josiah the man was homeless and explained the concept of homelessness, Josiah was determined to do something to help. He begged his mother to buy the man a good meal, and she agreed. “He came in and sat down, and nobody really waited on him,” Ava explained to WSFA. “So Josiah jumped up and asked him if he needed a menu, because you can’t order without one.”
At first, the man, overwhelmed by their generosity, chose the cheapest hamburger, but Ava and Josiah insisted that he get whatever he liked. He even asked if he could have bacon! “And I told him get as much bacon you want,” Ava told WSFA.
By the time Josiah started “blessing” the food, according Ava’s report, everyone in the restaurant was in tears.
“Watching my son touch the 11 people in that Waffle House tonight will be forever one of the greatest accomplishments as a parent I’ll ever get to witness,” she told WSFA in an e-mail. Ava, you deserve to be proud—you’ve got yourself an adorable little boy who has a passion for helping others.
