Emilia Clarke went back to being a brunette, and debuted the new look at the 2019 Oscars
Correction: The original version of this story incorrectly reported Clarke using an at-home box dye to color her hair. It has since been updated.
When there’s an actress known for a very specific hair color, it’s always a shock to see them any other way. Emilia Clarke, who we are most used to seeing as the platinum-blonde Daenerys on Game of Thrones, went from blonde to brunette just in time for the Oscars. While Clarke’s natural hair is brown, she’s been blonde for quite some time, so her short chestnut bob is a pretty drastic change.
Clarke enlisted colorist Nicola Clarke (no relation, we’re guessing) for the new hue. “Emilia returned to a rich brunette for the Oscars—a really rich, healthy glossy shade that is just a touch darker than her natural color. I used Virtue ColorKick to amp the gloss and shine and maintain the health of the hair during the color process,” Clarke told BehindTheChair.com.
Clarke, as always, looks flawless. As for her red carpet glam, Clarke turned to stylist Jenny Cho for her sleek bob, as well as Jillian Dempsey for makeup.
This is the first time Clarke has been a brunette since she lightened her hair blonde in 2017 for Game of Thrones. Previously, Clarke had turned to wearing wigs. Blonde, brunette, box dye, or not, Clarke always looks stunning. Perhaps after GOT airs its final season this year, she will experiment even further and go pink. We know the lady can pull it off.
