The 2019 Emmy nominations have been announced, and we’re already bending the knee to Sophie Turner

Awards show nominations are always full of surprises, and the 2019 Emmy Award nominations are no exception. The list of nominees was announced on July 16th, and this year, Game of Thrones fans have a lot to be excited about.

In the drama category, Game of Thrones completely dominated, receiving a whopping 32 nominations. According to Variety, that’s the highest number of Emmys nods that any TV series has ever received in one year. In particular, the fantasy epic cleaned up in acting nominations, which included Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The nom is a first for Turner. Other dramas that got some well-deserved recognition included Pose, Ozark, This Is Us, and Killing Eve. In the limited series category, Ava DuVernay’s When They See Us racked up the nominations.

Apart from Game of Thrones, cult favorite comedies made it big in the Emmys nomination list. Fleabag, Russian Doll, The Good Place, and Schitt’s Creek all scored several nods each. Big network sitcoms weren’t as lucky. Former awards show favorite The Big Bang Theory was nowhere to be found, despite the fact that the show’s series finale aired in May. (We’re also a little salty that Broad City didn’t get any nods for its final season, tbh.)

According to the Emmys’ website, the 71st Emmy Awards will air on September 22nd at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. Unfortunately, we have to wait until then to find out who the winners will be, but for now, we can cheer on some of our favorites.
