20 reactions to Sean Spicer’s resignation, because Twitter clearly has a lot of feelings
It’s officially the end of an era. On Friday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned. As you can imagine, the reactions to Sean Spicer’s resignation are all over the space. It was only a few months, but Spicey really made his mark. Apparently, Spicer had had enough. He cited “chaos” in the West Wing and also said that he disagreed with Donald Trump hiring Anthony Scaramucci as communications director this morning. Scaramucci is a close friend of Trump’s and has defended him to the media in the past. He’s a Fox News kind of guy, but he also has relationships with members of the “fake news” outlets, according to The New York Times.
There are probably a lot of reasons Sean Spicer resigned.
Spicer tweeted out, “It’s been an honor & a privilege to serve @POTUS@realDonaldTrump & this amazing country. I will continue my service through August.” According to CNN, Trump didn’t want Spicer to resign and people in the West Wing were “shocked” that he pulled the trigger on quitting.
If anything, Spicer will be best remembered for being portrayed by Melissa McCarthy on Saturday Night Live, being pretty combative with reporters, and allegedly hiding in the bushes.
Here are some of the best reactions. There were a lot of podium GIFs, as you can imagine:
The only sad part about Sean Spicer resigning is there won't be any more SNL skits about him. Stay Spicey pic.twitter.com/x9HXy51iZl

The best tribute to Sean Spicer would be for someone to stand up in the briefing room and insist that Spicer absolutely did not quit, period

Trump released a statement through White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sander saying, “I am grateful for Sean’s work on behalf of my administration and the American people. I wish him continued success as he moves on to pursue new opportunities. Just look at his great television ratings.”
Although recently, those ratings have not been very good. Earlier this year, the White House banned cameras from the press briefing room, likely to make the media’s job harder, but also possibly because Trump was not thrilled with all of the jokes people were making about his press secretary. Spicer did one off-camera briefing this week, for the first time in three weeks. Sanders will take over as press secretary once Spicer officially doesn’t show up for work next month.
He was a controversial member of the Trump administration, but Spicer was also the funniest. He will definitely be missed by Twitter, at the very least.
