15 television quotes every bestie can relate to

We’re kicking off the release of our first HelloGiggles book,

A Tale of Two Besties, with an epic celebration of friendship and stories about friendship. Read an excerpt of the book, buy a copy, catch us on our cross-country book tour, and share your photos from our events by tagging us @hellogiggles #ATaleofTwoBesties. Even more difficult than tackling movie best friendships is tackling television best friendships. When a TV show is on for more than five years, it is a lot easier to flesh out a friendship, assuring these people are best friends / life partners. There were a million to choose from, but these quotes represent true friendship, television style. JD: Our kids? Turk, we’re not married.Turk: Dude, we’re a little married. Christopher Turk and John Michael Dorian (JD), Scrubs
Even Carla, the love of Turk’s life, can admit that JD may just love him more than she does. That’s the best kind of best friendship–when the significant other comes in second. Cory: You know what, Shawn? I always thought that Topanga was the one person I could never live without. But she’s gone, and you’re here. And I’m alive, so it must be you. Shawn: I’d take a bullet for you. Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter, Boy Meets World

Is there anything better than having a best friend that has been around for almost literally your whole life? All of my best friends have known me since I was 12 years old, so I feel it good, y’all. Cory and Shawn go through every single thing together. True best friends.

“We made a deal ages ago…men, babies, it doesn’t matter. We’re soul mates”

Samantha Jones, Sex and the City

Who could overlook the bond between these four besties, who made it through all of life’s changes while still sticking by each other’s sides. “My best friend is Shirley Feeney, the best in all the land. Whenever we’re in trouble, we face it hand in hand. We laugh when we are happy, we cry when we are sad. We talk when we are lonely, just to know her makes me glad. If I had one wish in life, I know what it would be. I’d have Shirley as my best friend, for all eternity.” Laverne De Fazio and Shirley Feeney, Laverne & ShirleyFriends that work together stay together. Laverne and Shirley are the bee’s knees. They live together, work together, get annoyed by the same neighbors together. And on a way shallow note, these two dress like I wish I dressed. Style for days. Rhoda: Do you have any dessert?
Brenda: Does Gladys Knight have Pips?
Mary Richard and Rhoda Morgenstern, The Mary Tyler Moore Show I have basically based my life around these two and their friendship. Are they different? Totally. Do they always agree? Absolutely not. Would they do anything for each other? God, yes. The two girls date, and they joke about the men they date, but everyone knows that Mary and Rhoda were it for one another. And I LOVE those friendships. “Glasses off. You’re f*%$#! gorgeous.”
Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, Broad City

Abbi and Ilana are so weird. So hilarious. So ridiculous. And so, so real. There is a reason that Broad City has creeped it’s way into our hearts and funny bones and these two are IT. Their friendship is like your friendship with all of your best friends. Will: What if he told you you couldn’t wear plaid anymore?
Carlton: Don’t even joke about that, Will. That’s not funny. Will Smith and Carlton Banks, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Yes, they are cousins, but they end up being way more than associated by familial ties. Carlton and Will are more opposite than apples and cheeseburgers, however they end up loving each other more than either of them would ever admit it. Do they butt heads, mock each other, upset one another? Duh, but what is a best friend for? “Our past was here, but our future was somewhere else, and we both knew sooner or later we had to go. It was the last July I ever spent in that town. The next year after graduation I was on my way. So was Paul! He went to Harvard, of course. Study law, he’s still allergic to everything.” Kevin Arnold and Paul Pfeiffer, The Wonder Years

Dripping with nostalgia, The Wonder Years is one of the most underrated shows in television history, in my opinion! Paul and Kevin, man, nothing tore those two apart. They were ride-and-die before any knew what the hell that meant. “No. Tragically, we are both heterosexual.” Ann Perkins and Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation Ann and Leslie are so different, but their friendship works so well. The two have arguably redefined female friendships, not just on television, but in real life! Galentine’s Day is on its way to actually being the holiday we celebrate instead of Valentine’s Day, and we have these two beautiful gems to thank. Rachel: I don’t know what I’m going to do without you.
Monica: You’re the greatest friend I ever had.Rachel Green and Monica Geller-Bing, Friends I do think that there are a million Friends duos that could be arguably the best besties. In fact, I have had this conversation ten million times, and I still fall back on Monica and Rachel (and Joey and Chandler). Monica and Rachel were best friends growing up, in high school, even when Rachel was supposedly this awful Mean Girl of a cheerleader and Monica, well, wasn’t. Also, you have to be a real good friend to date/have a baby with/marry-in-Vegas someone’s brother. I have three brothers, and you are darn right that someone would have to be my BEST FRIEND EVER to get that close to any of them. “My love for you is like this scar. Ugly, but permanent.”
Will Truman and Grace Adler, Will & Grace Though they started out romantically (well, one of them did), Will and Grace have the kind of best friendship that we all want: someone to kill it at board games with. “Jess is by far the best person I know, so if you let anything happen to her, I’m going to come here and crazy murder you.” Jess Day and Cece Parekh, New Girl

Is there anything better than an opposites-attract friendship? Jess is quirky and strange. Cece is staunch and real. The two have been best friends forever, and they remain so through the ups and downs of their early adulthood. Moments like when Cece wears Jess’ dumb ribbon hat to prove her loyalty? That’s the real stuff. Jerry: She wants to talk?
George: She doesn’t want to. She needs to talk.
Jerry: Nobody needs to talk.
George: Who would want to? Jerry Seinfeld and George Costanza, Seinfeld George Costanza is one of the weirdest characters of all-time, on television and just in general. Jerry is his best friend. Jerry can handle George’s insanity, and George can handle Jerry’s everything. These two invented the best friend riff. “This could only happen to you.” Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz, I Love Lucy Speaking of riffs, Ethel and Lucy had one of the best friendships on television (and also Lucy had the best deal with her landlord ever). Lucy got Ethel into a ton of trouble, but Ethel kept supporting her ideas. If that’s not a best friend, I have no idea what is. Chandler: Now I’ve upset you? What did I say?
Joey: It’s not what you said, it’s just the way you said it.Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing, Friends

Hey all other Friends duos, I’ma let you finish, but Joey and Chandler had the best friendship of all time. If you feel like arguing with me about it, I am DOWN, but I’ll say one thing: Chandler bought Joey’s headshots for him. I have friends that have helped me out in a financial crisis, and I’ll tell you what, those people are my best friends. Like, best of the best best friends. (Plus, foosball, duh.) [Images , , ]
