17 of the most savage tweets about Trump’s response that he would have “run” into Parkland to stop the school shooting
Earlier today, five-time draft dodger and current president of the United States, Donald Trump made some pretty bold statements. The president imagined his own heroic response to the horrific shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on February 14th.
Criticizing the response by the local Broward County law enforcement during a meeting with governors across the country, Trump went on to imagine how he would have reacted as a first responder during the shooting. Despite four education deferments and one for “bone spurs” during the Vietnam War, Trump decided that armed or not, he would have confronted the shooter head-on. He told the governors, “You know I really believe — you don’t know until you’re tested — but I really believe I’d run in there even if I didn’t have a weapon and I think most of the people in this room would’ve done that too.”
As a wise woman once said, “Sure, Jan.”
Naturally, Trump’s less than helpful Mark Wahlberg approach to the situation — coupled with his, ahem, military record, or lack thereof — has sparked quite the response from Twitter, with many citing a host of prior circumstances that contradict his claim.
Here are some of the best Twitter responses to Trump’s supremely inappropriate and insensitive remarks:
false false
Trump said today that he’d have run into that school even if he wasn't armed. Really? With his bone spurs? A fart in his general direction.

Trump claims he would’ve run into a school shooting even without a gun if he was there.
Listen, Marky-Mark. You’ve never run anywhere in your life, except away from the draft & responsibility. You’re literally everyone’s drunk, stupid uncle braying about what a tough guy he is.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders later clarified Trump’s remarks, saying the president didn’t actually mean he’d run into the school armed or unarmed to confront the shooter, despite saying as much earlier in the day. Instead, Huckabee Sanders said, “[Trump] was just stating that as a leader he would have stepped in and hopefully been able to help.” Sure. Suuuuuuure.
