The author of “13 Reasons Why” REALLY wants a Season 2, and so do we
If you were left wanting more at the end of Netflix’s latest original series, 13 Reasons Why, you’re not alone. The show is based off of a book by the same name, and closely follows the events of the book. There, sadly, is no second book. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be a second season of the show, and if you ask 13 Reasons Why’s author, Jay Asher, he’s game for more.
There’s been a lot of debate back and forth as to whether or not 13 Reasons Why should continue on. The show certainly ended with a bunch of cliffhangers (Alex! Ryan! Clay and Skye!!), but Hannah’s tapes have concluded. We’re left knowing that this story is over, but yet, the story still carries on, and though the ending isn’t tied up with a neat bow, we know it’s done. Or is it?
Asher actually pondered a second book at one point in time, but never wrote it, “There’s never going to be a sequel,” he told Entertainment Weekly. However, with the show getting rave reviews on Netflix, he is clearly thinking about these characters again, and what happens next for them.
“I’d just like a continuation of all those characters, he continued. “I’m curious as well. What happens to Clay? How do people react to what Alex did at the very end? What’s going to happen to Mr. Porter? I’d thought of a sequel at some point. I’d brainstormed it, but decided I wasn’t going to write it. So I’d love to see it.
Asher is quick to point out that he can’t say either way if there will or won’t be a Season 2 of the show, but he knows where it would probably go.
“Every action we have is going to have repercussions in ways we could not anticipate. You realize that with not just what Hannah did, but also how other people treated Tyler throughout it. It’s the whole message of the book. Of course, there’s obviously ways to go with a second season if they do that.
And TBH, we hope Netflix finds the perfect way to continue the story.
