13 of the greatest Vines you need to watch before it shuts down forever
It’s the end of an era, folks. That’s because Twitter announced that it will be shutting down Vine, its six-second or less video looping app. Even if you aren’t one of the Vine users who is mourning this personal loss, you may still be sad that you’ll never be able to create a Vine ever again.
Before you get too depressed though, already-created Vines aren’t going anywhere as of yet — and they’re actually the best way to help you cope with this tech tragedy.
If you are looking for some closure after this devastating news, then you should probably check out some of the best Vines ever made. And thankfully, that’s still going to be possible.
In their statement, the Vine and Twitter team wrote, "We'll be keeping the website online because we think it’s important to still be able to watch all the incredible Vines that have been made."
So, let’s say goodbye by watching some of the greatest Vines ever.
1. The Leonardo DiCaprio-Lady Gaga Incident
Seeing Leo’s eyebrow raise at the moment when Lady Gaga bumps into him at the 2016 Golden Globes will never not bring me joy.
2. The long wait for a text response
#bruh
3. “What are those???”
This meme may have started on Instagram, but it is a near-perfect example of Vine culture.
4. Drake’s pizza delivery
Drake’s dancing in his music video for “Hotline Bling” was destined to become a meme.
5. Ryan Gosling eats his cereal
The only Vine Ryan Gosling ever posted was a silent tribute to the Ryan McHenry, who created the “Ryan Gosling won’t eat his cereal” Vines. McHenry suffered from osteosarcoma and died in 2015, so Gosling posted this really sweet and silly cereal-eating moment to acknowledge his passing.
6. Gotta catch ’em all
Like Vine, Pokémon GO will surely have an expiration date and this Vine encapsulates the craziness that ensued when the app premiered.
7. Take on her
Do I necessarily understand why this Vine was looped over 100 million times? No. Does it make me laugh? Yes.
8. “Would you not eat my pants?”
Her scream at the end is everything.
9. Beware the ball
Speaking of screams, Jay’s cry at the end of this Vine is bloodcurdling. But it’s also really hard not to laugh.
10. There’s no crying in pre-k
The news interview didn’t originate on the looping app, but this child realizing that he will miss his mom when he goes to Pre-K was too adorably funny for Vine not to notice.
11. Ruth B’s musical success
Just to show how powerful the app could be, Vine helped launch Ruth B’s music career with her singing her song “Lost Boy” on there first.
12. “Girl, you’re thicker than a bowl of oatmeal.”
While I don’t necessarily want to glorify this moment, it’s amazing that even as he was being tried in court for selling marijuana to an undercover cop, this man was proud of his pick-up line.
13. Too busy dancing to die
Viner Mondel’s video of getting down to the Halloween theme song is so fitting as the death of Vine was announced right before the scary holiday.
Farewell, Vine! We’ll be looping these videos in your memory.
