Meet the 12-year-old girl who has a higher IQ than Einstein
Nicole Barr, who’s from a traveling community and is currently living in Essex, England, is certainly not your average 12-year-old. Why? Because at her young age, she’s done something absolutely remarkable: she scored the highest possible score in an IQ test. . . making her smarter than Stephen Hawking and, yes, Albert Einstein. The two renowned scientists both scored a 160, while Nicole scored a whopping 162.
The average adult gets a 100 IQ score; a 140 score marks a genius. “When I found out I got such a high score, it was so unexpected,” Nicole, who attends Burnt Mill Academy, told the Western Daily Press. “I was shocked.”
According to her mother, 34-year-old Dolly Buckland, this doesn’t come as much of a shock to those who know her daughter. “She’s a hard, hard working child,” Dolly told The Mirror. “She stays after school for homework club and never misses a day. From a young age she’s been picking out mistakes in books and magazines. She’s a happy, fun-loving girl who is always asking for extra homework.”
Nicole was several years ahead of her peers in school, able to solve complex algebra problems at the age of 10. “Nicole is a brilliant pupil,” Helena Mills, head of the BMA group of six schools including Burnt Mill Academy, told Western Daily Press. “She works incredibly hard and has thrown herself into many different activities in her first year with us.”
One of those activities includes acting. Nicole attends drama classes and will be in a performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night sometime soon. But that’s not all. “. . . she has been camping, entered writing competitions and taken part in a national maths challenge,” Mills explained to Western Daily Press. “She lives and breathes our unofficial motto of hard work pays.”
“Nicole’s IQ puts her comfortably within the top one percent of the population,” a spokesman for Mensa, the largest and oldest high IQ society in the world, explained to the Western Daily Press. “Only children can get a score higher than 161, because that is the maximum IQ score for an adult. The test is age adjusted for children. While a score of 162 isn’t exactly unknown, it is still quite rare.”
One thing’s for sure: Nicole’s future is bright indeed. She acts, writes, and competes in math challenges — but her ultimate dream? To become a doctor. “She’s determined to finish school and go to college and university to be a [pediatrician],” Dolly told The Mirror.
