12 unreal catfish stories that will make you question your online relationships

You’ve probably already seen an episode or two of Catfish, MTV’s weirdly addicting reality show about people trying to find love online while hiding their real identities by using fake profiles. Crazy, right? In our opinion, catfish stories are lose-lose situations. Finding out that the person you’ve been spending countless hours sharing pieces of your life with isn’t who they claimed to be can be devastating. And the reason behind their deception can usually be found in their own insecurities. Can you imagine being so uncomfortable in your own skin that you think you have to pretend to be someone else? (OK, so we all feel at least a little like that sometimes. We totally aren’t catfishing people, but we def get what it’s like to feel insecure!)

But if you still believe the one for you could be a Tinder swipe away, don’t let us stop you. In fact, according to data from dating sites like Match.com, peak online dating season usually falls between December 25th and February 14th so, now might be as good a time as any to spruce up those dating profiles.

Before you swipe right or hit send on that DM, remember the following catfish stories.
