13 Cool Real-Life Couples Who Started As Castmates
On-set romance is such a thing that at this point it’s really just a cliché. So and so meets so and so in a remote setting, they’re vulnerable and trapped together for six weeks in the Tennessee hills/Africa/the tundra/a small city that is probably in Canada, sparks fly, and soon trailer “card games” begin and an adorably-passionate fling occurs and usually the whole thing is over in time to make for an awkward press junket.
But then there are those rare on-set relationships that create long-term famous couples who we love and want to look at all of the time. On occasion, the kind of duos who change the notion of famous people forever (Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton) and therefore change our idea of the movie/TV show/commercial/play where they originally appeared together (Cleopatra).
If you’ve seen any photos of Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher recently, you know that they’re essentially the cutest couple ever to meet onscreen and watching them together IRL makes watching them on reruns of That ’70s Show like a million times more romantic. 1) Anna Faris and Chris Pratt
I can only imagine the hilarity that ensues at the dinner parties hosted by Anna Faris and Chris Pratt. Faris, known for her role as Cindy in the Scary Movie series, met funnyman Pratt on the set of Take Me Home Tonight, a movie thats only redeeming quality may be Topher Grace’s attempt to look cool on the theatrical release poster.
2) Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor
As it turns out, Christine Taylor wasn’t acting when her character fell in love with the ditzy but lovable Derek Zoolander. They may not have a home for “kids who can’t read good” or a reputation as “that couple that tried to kill the Malaysian Prime Minister,” but that hasn’t stopped the couple from having a successful 14-year marriage. (It also doesn’t hurt that they’re really, really, ridiculously good-looking.) They met on the set of Heat Vision and Jack and have been tearing up the Hollywood screens ever since.
3) Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan
Film theorists will tell you that dance compatibility on-screen implies romantic compatibility as well. The theory being, if they can break out into a perfectly synced dance routine, then they probably share a special emotional and physical bond. I can only imagine what that means for Channing Tatum and his wife, who met on the set of Step Up in 2006.
4) Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield go together like yuppies and Starbucks or fashionable children and English accents. The actors bonded on the set of The Amazing Spiderman and have been charming the world ever since. They’ve even used their romance to fight crime and raise awareness for serious issues, which is more than can be said about other celebrity couples.
5) Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser
Rory Gilmore is all grown up. After graduating from her role in Gilmore Girls, Bledel signed on to AMC’s Mad Men, where she met Vincent Kartheiser. Though the two’s on-screen affair was short-lived, their romance in real life turned serious in 2013 when the couple announced their engagement.
6) Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher
Talk about an overdue romance. The couple recently announced their engagement slash pregnancy news, almost 14 years after working on the set of That ’70s Show. It’s like all of my cheesy, 13-year-old fan fiction ideas have come true. I can’t help but think that maybe someday, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny will reunite and spend their honeymoon hunting aliens and bickering about science like the good ol’ days.
7) Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin
HBO may not have a very good track record with on-screen weddings but the network hasn’t done a bad job at matchmaking in real life. Anna Paquin, star of the series True Blood, met her husband on the set of the show when he was cast as the actress’ love interest. They became engaged in 2009 and have been making vampire babies since 2012.
8) Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr.
In yet another fan-fiction-turned-reality, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze, Jr. married in 2002, five years after meeting on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer. The two went on to play Daphne Blake and Fred Jones in the live-action version of Scooby Doo, proving, finally, that Daphne and Fred were meant to be together all along.
9) Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith
Jada Pinkett-Smith may not have gotten the part that she wanted (that is, the Fresh Prince’s girlfriend) when she auditioned for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in 1990, but she didn’t leave the set entirely empty handed. Will took a liking to the actress and, after a few years of friendship, the two began dating exclusively. Pinkett redeemed herself in 2001 when she landed the role of Sonji Roi in Ali, girlfriend to Muhammad Ali’s character played by Will Smith himself.
10) Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos
Not all soap opera romances are flawed, apparently. Kelly met Mark Consuelos on the set of All My Children after he was cast as her character’s steamy love interest. The two got hitched in Vegas after only a year of dating.
11) Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman
Before playing Matilda’s parents in the 1996 feature film, Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman were playing house in real life. The two met after one of DeVito’s play performances and moved in with each other just two weeks after meeting.

Once upon a time, Prince Charming fell in love with Snow White and the two lived happily ever after. Then they took off their costumes, left the Once Upon A Time set, and got hitched in real life too. Happy endings abound.

While working on the set of the spy drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the two A-list actors fell in love and set out to change the world with their philanthropy and ridiculously cute babies. Brangelina’s love story is now basically Taylor-Burton famous, and we can’t watch Mr. and Mrs. Smith without searching for clues of their IMPENDING LOVE AND WORLD DOMINATION, making them arguably the best and most iconic on-screen-to-real-life love story of all time.
