The heartbreaking reason why one man passed out 100 love notes to strangers

I have a habit of crying at everything, but if you’ve seen this post on Facebook this past week, you probably cried too.

Hyong Yi is a father of two, Anna, 10, and Alex 7. Last year, Hyong lost his wife Catherine to Stage 4 ovarian cancer. As Today reports, this year, on the anniversary of his wife’s death, he and their children walked through uptown Charlotte, North Carolina (where the family lives), handing out love notes to those they passed to remind people to express their love while they still have the chance. 50 of the notes were written from Hyong’s perspective, the other half were written from Catherine’s POV. The notes can all be read on his website, www.100lovenotes.com.

The notes reference inside jokes and moments of the married couple’s relationship. Chances are, that you were not there on the day that the family passed out the notes to honor the late mother. However, with hope, the site will still give you something to think about, and fulfill its intention of pushing you to share your love with someone.

“In daily life, we get so busy that we often forget to express our love for one another,” Hyong explains on the #100LoveNotes Facebook page. “We assume our loved ones will always be there. Today, I invite you to take a moment to honor the loves in your lives. Let’s remind ourselves what’s most important in life – sharing our love with one another. Please join ‪#‎100LoveNotes‬ in writing a love note or sharing an expression of love (ex. – chalk art, post-it note, skywritten note, etc.) with someone you love and share it on social media with the hashtag  ‪#‎100LoveNotes‬.”

“My hope is that they will take a moment to reflect on the love in their life,” Yi told NBC Charlotte affiliate WCNC. “What I wouldn’t give to have one more minute, even a minute to talk, hold hands, and I want people to take a minute and reflect on that. Sharing that with somebody they love.”
