10 [Remember MySpace?] Questions With… Patricia Rae!

In The Big Wedding, which hit theatres last month, Patricia Rae plays Madonna, the ultra-conservative mother who unexpectedly decides to fly halfway across the world to attend the wedding of her biological son. To ensure the wedding goes off without a hitch, a long divorced couple – Madonna and her ex – are forced to play happy husband and wife in front of their family and invited guests.

This Columbian-American actress was raised in Queens, New York speaking only Spanish, but learned English by watching Sesame Street. She discovered acting as a child, and went on to study at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Institute.

Patricia is best known for her break out role as Carla in the Oscar Nominated film Maria Full of Grace and from the hit TV show Chuck. Patricia’s stage credits include the one-woman show Under Construction, which she also wrote and based loosely on her childhood. Among other roles, she also starred in The Making of Patricia Rae, which premiered at the Stella Adler Conservatory in New York. She is a member of the Elephant Theatre Company in Los Angeles, where she won a BackStage West Garland Award in 2008 for best ensemble performance in In Arabia We’d All Be Kings.

After working in the industry for two decades before seeing success, Patricia Rae is inspiring proof that with hard work, dedication and talent, persistence will eventually pay off.

Marilyn Monroe and/or Madonna. Both, preferably.

My favorite children’s book is:

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I read it to my daughter, Sage, so often. The message of compassion is a beautiful lesson for a young mind.

The piece of clothing in my closet that I have had forever is:

A leopard print Bebe tube top — that I don’t fit into anymore!  Damn.

One thing on my bucket list I haven’t done is:

A pilgrimage to India, definitely!

I am currently reading:

The Racketeer by John Grisham. But I just finished The Life of Pi.

My favorite place to be is:

Home. Everywhere that I have traveled makes it clear that there is no place like home.

If I were a crayon, the name of my crayon would be:

Sage Green. I am very drawn to the color because of its connection to nature, and of course it reminds me of my daughter, Sage.

I am afraid of:

Heights! I am terrified of them. My feet belong on the ground.

In my first school pageant, I was a:

One of the 7 dwarfs, but I don’t remember which one. I didn’t understand English in kindergarten!
