10 Reasons We’re Psyched For ‘Pitch Perfect 2’
When I decided to pursue TV writing last year, I vowed to expand college storylines in film and TV, as quality onscreen content featuring this demographic is actually pretty hard to find. I think that explains the success of 2012 treasure Pitch Perfect, which follows a once thriving campus a capella group now made up of outcast oddballs. It charmed people everywhere two years ago, even my political junkie friend Asawin Suebsaeng over in DC, and here’s why the sequel will be just as phenomenal.
10. Elizabeth Banks is directing
It’s her feature directorial debut as well. There’s no way she’s not going to do an amazing job, especially after hosting the Hunger Games!
9. Demi Lovato is rumored to be involved
First Glee, now Pitch Perfect 2. We all know she can sing, so hopefully we can see her do it on the big screen come 2015.
8. Rebel Wilson is back
So I have a confession to make: I don’t love Rebel Wilson’s sitcom Super Fun Night, but I adore her with every fiber of my being, so I know she’s going to nail the Fat Amy role once again. Here’s to having a part that thrives and makes everyone laugh!
7. Kay Cannon is writing the screenplay
The New Girl powerhouse gave us the first Pitch Perfect, so you know she’s got some amazing jokes and plotlines in store for the next film. Cheers to hilarious and hard-working mothers!
6. Anna Camp and Skylar Astin are a real couple now
They don’t date in Pitch Perfect and Camp was married during the filming of the comedy, but they’re an item now, and he gushed about her long before they even dated. The actor said of his co-star in 2012, “There’s only going to be a sequel if this girl [Anna Camp] is involved. That’s the only way I’ll do it.” Aw!
5. Glee is ending next year and we need all the musical comedies we can get
With the Fox hit on its way out, 2015 is the time to keep musical comedy afloat — at least until another brilliant writer comes up with a good TV or film idea about singing younguns.
4. We might get to see Beca and Jesse as a thing
They finally kiss at the conclusion of Pitch Perfect, so if Skylar Astin is in the second flick, we’ll probably see them as a full on couple. They’ll probably break up and get back together a la Taylor Swift, but what good is a comedy without a little romantic drama?
3. Elizabeth Banks will be acting in the film as well
Remember her funny cameo as one of the a capella judges? She’s set to appear in Pitch Perfect 2 as well, hopefully with more screen time!
2. The “Cups” song
It wasn’t my cup of tea, but Anna Kendrick’s song resonated with so many people, it made the top 40 and blared through stereos and Apple earbuds all last year. Pitch Perfect 2 will most definitely produce more hits like this.
1. Anna Kendrick may or may not be back
Though rumored to be in the film, Anna Kendrick hasn’t officially signed on yet. And you know what? I’m OK with the movie either way. Beca’s character would be amazing in the sequel, but another lead would be fresh and interesting too. We all know Cannon and Banks aren’t the type to phone it in, so whether Kendrick pops up again or not, the production is going to wow us.
