You’re never too old for these 10 amazing kids’ cereals

Today is National Cereal Day, which, in my book at least, deserves to be one of the federal holidays that we get to stay home from work and school and celebrate together, as a nation. It probably goes without saying, but I love cereal. I could live on cereal. Cereal is a delicious food, but it’s more than that. Cereal isn’t just a great food, it’s an entire great category of food. If you’re feeling uber healthy, you can reach for a box of wholesome goodness, like Cheerios. If you’re feeling a little sweeter, you can indulge your sweet tooth with some Frosted Mini-Wheats. If you want to throw caution to the wind and sacrifice all semblance of healthiness in favor of a bowl of milk-covered, addictively delicious sugar, you can reach for, well, practically anything with a cartoon spokesperson on the cover.

So, in honor of this glorious day and this even more glorious food group, here are 10 amazing kids’ cereals that you’re never, ever too old to enjoy.

Lucky Charms

Hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers, blue moon, pots of gold, rainbows and, of course, red balloons. Pick your favorite sugar-nugget marshmallow from Lucky the Leprechaun’s magic world; there are no wrong answers here. Not now. Not ever. Lucky Charms are magically delicious no matter how old you are.

Cocoa Puffs

Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs? Forever and always. Side note: There is no better chocolate milk in the world than the chocolate milk left at the bottom of the bowl of Cocoa Puffs. I will stand by that forever.

Fruit Loops

Fruit Loops are so loosely associated with fruit, it’s almost criminal to let them share a name, but who cares? These slightly fruit-flavored sugar loops are delicious,

Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch

If you think original Cap’n Crunch or Crunch Berries are the best Cap’n Crunch cereals, you are dead wrong. Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch will destroy the roof of your mouth, but it’s worth the pain, at least every once in a while.

Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is what Golden Grahams might be if they weren’t disgusting (I’m sorry; when it comes to cereal, I tell it like it is). They have a texture that almost makes you think they might be good for you and enough sugary, cinnamon-y sweetness to remind you that they aren’t (and you don’t care).

Apple Jacks

Apple Jacks used to hang their hat on being fake healthy. Their whole add campaign boiled down to:

Irreverent and delicious? Yes forever.

Life

Mikey likes it and so do I. Life cereal is amazing for life.

Trix

Trix are for kids? Nice try. Trix are for everyone.

Cocoa Pebbles

Cocoa Pebbles are chocolate heaven in a bowl. I will never stop eating them, and neither should you.

Any seasonal or special edition cereal ever

I don’t care how old you get, there’s something amazing and exciting about anything that only comes one time a year. Seasonal cereals aren’t always great, but they’re always worth eating for pure nostalgia.
