The weather is getting nicer every day as we get closer to summer. In order to take advantage of the warmer days, I decided to try some workouts that bring you out of the house and away from your television screen (don’t worry, I still adore my Jillian.) I turned to YouTube, which has a host of free workouts. It’s such a great resource to try something new, see how something is done or just change up your routine. And best of all, it’s free! Doing a workout on YouTube also has a huge advantage in that you can view the workouts on your smart phone – which means you can take it outside.
These workouts from two popular YouTube fitness personalities are great because you can do them anywhere. All you need is a small patch of grass, which could be in your own backyard or a nearby park. They are also body weight workouts, so you don’t need to drag any equipment with you, just maybe a towel and a bottle of water.
This first video is from SarahFit TV and is a total body toner; it’s her “Get Bikini Fit Circuit.” She does a great job of explaining the exercises and number of reps. Since it’s on YouTube, you can easily pause and rewind as needed while you finish the workout.
This next video is from Amanda Russell, and focuses on the lower body. I did this workout three days ago and my buns are still sore! She also does a great job of illustrating how each move is done and what muscles you should be targeting. It’s fairly simple, but definitely effective.
Both of these ladies have tons of videos and are excellent workout resources. I love the fact that the segments are short and sweet and you don’t have to follow along verbatim. You can pause and move at your own pace, with your own music. The fact that they are free is also a huge plus. If you don’t like the workout, just move on.
I would say you should be careful about what YouTube workouts you might want to try and make sure they’re done by reputable people who know what they’re doing. A little research never hurts. That twelve year old in their basement may not be the best person to show you proper form. Then again, they might be awesome.
Do any of you have any workouts you love to do outdoors? Let me know!
