Your Favorite Movie Trailers

It’s amazing what a little editing and sound effects can do. Especially when people take footage from movies we’re all familiar with and cut a trailer for what seems like a completely different movie. These re-cut trailers are pretty rampant on youtube (the number of “Inception” inspired trailers alone is enough to make your head spin) but some are done so well I thought they deserved a shout out.

Shining – from The Shining

This is, for me, the pinnacle of all re-cut trailers. They turn Kubrick’s dark thriller into a totally heart warming coming-of-age, father son masterpiece! Throwing in the song ‘Solsbury Hill’ only seals the deal. Better bring extra tissues for this one, it’s an uplifting tear jerker your aunt is gonna love.

Sleepless in Seattle

Okay, this one goes in the totally opposite direction and takes the romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle and turns it into a haunting trailer for a horror movie I’m probably too scared to see. There’s something hilarious about seeing the preternaturally perky Meg Ryan being cast as a psycho stalker. But it also makes you think about that movie – why the hell did this lady travel all the way across the country to meet some guy she heard talk on the radio? Maybe she is a bit nutso after all. On a side note, how great was Rosie O’Donnell in that movie? She’s hilarious.

Brokeback to the Future

This mashup of Back to the Future and Brokeback Mountain is priceless and beyond clever. It’s hard not to crack up seeing Doc Brown and Marty McFly so in love – but struggling to deal with it. Oh, the pain! But that Brokeback music almost brings tears….
