You Wanted It, You Got It: Your Chance to Contribute!

As HelloGiggles readers, you came out en masse last week to share your thoughts on what you think is lacking on the site and what you’d like to see more of. One thing is clear: you’re not feeling politics – at least not in the conventional sense. We hear you! The HG brand is based around sharing a smile and we certainly hope that the site can be a safe haven from the negativity that so often surrounds us.

That being said, there’s always room for growth! A staggering number of you want to see more book reviews, beauty tutorials and DIY pieces here on the site. Humour and parody and recipes also proved popular – understandably so!

With a new year and new ideas, we thought we’d host our first open call for potential weekly contributors. Do you have a unique idea not otherwise covered on the site that you think might appeal to your fellow HelloGiggles readers? Got a creative perspective on a seemingly overdone topic that you think you might shed new light on? Here’s your chance to become involved and write for the site.

All you have to do is pitch your column idea – really pitch it! – and let us know why you’d be a good fit to join the HG team. In addition, please include writing samples (more helpful if on the topic you’re proposing to write about) so we can get a taste for your style. If we like you, you could soon be writing the very pieces you want to see!

Send your weekly column ideas and writing samples to pitchgiggles@gmail.com – we may not be able to respond to every e-mail personally, but we’ll be sure to get in touch with those we like! Make sure to keep it positive!

If you have a one-off piece (not a weekly series) that you’d like to see featured in the From Our Readers section, continue to contribute via the website here!

Hey, politics wasn’t exactly at the very bottom! I hope that you don’t completely nix the political stuff. I enjoy reading it and as fun/upbeat as this site is I think there’s always a place for information. Perhaps you could do a twice-a-month column on major updates from dual perspectives- a liberal and a conservative (if you can a hip, young one. do those exist? I’d volunteer but I’m not nearly up on current things as I should be). Anything to keep it from getting nasty. I think it would be a shame to send a message that real girls care more about beauty products (though we love those) than What’s Going On. Really, we all care about WGO, but there’s so much info and opinion out there that it would be nice to have it broken down by voices we can respond to. I also think it would be amazing to really encourage mutual respect between parties of differing opinions. I recognize that stances vary WIDELY, but I try very hard to understand opposing points of view and it breaks my heart to see young people essentially being trained by the older generation to treat differences with bitterness. That hasn’t gotten us anywhere. Let the girls lead the way!

(all that escalated a bit. but you get my point I hope. even if you don’t, I’ll still adore HG and whatever you decide to feature. also, this was not a pitch. just a suggestion)

Yes! Email sent! Resisting to urge to send a second email to further elaborate on my idea…

hehe I’m in the same situation Emily. Was just a bit click happy at the prospect and fired it off without properly padding it out.

    • Thumb upThumb down1

Same! I got additional ideas within an hour of sending my idea in, but I suppressed the crazy and did some laundry instead.

  5. Thumb upThumb down

    Just sent mine in!

While politics could be divisive, a lot of the comments on the last post indicated that people want to see more feminist slanted posts about current events or topics in general. (i.e. the portrayal of women in media, misogynist soup, etc.)

  7. Thumb upThumb down

oh gurl, you just made my day!

  8. Thumb upThumb down1

I sent mine in, too! I hope you read it!

Some of my favorite stuff when HelloGiggles first came out was the style/fashion tips from Grasie Mercedes but also the “3-Way Fashion” was great too. These plus Fillesophy’s Notes From The Powder Room and Misogynist Soup have all but disappeared :( I know people get busy but it’s sad to have seen them go

  15. Thumb upThumb down

Just sent my submission in. Thank you for your consideration!

  16. Thumb upThumb down

Wow, look at all of the potential writers you guys could have!!

  17. Thumb upThumb down

I just sent mine in! Good luck, everyone :)

Super psyched that this is open ended because I have lots of ideas :) *fingers crossed*
