If you saw my last post, you would know I’m all for using one-piece swimwear beyond the beach… but a bikini top as a shirt has got me thinking. It’s definitely not for those who are shy to show skin, that’s obvious. But does it work beyond a runway or editorial shoot? I think it can! So, if you are a fearless fashionista and willing to try the trend, here are some styling tips:
- Wear it on vacation and in beach towns. Swimwear as everyday wear may look out of place in a concrete jungle like NYC, but if you’re in the Hamptons for the weekend, give it a go!
- Wear it with high-waisted bottoms. Let’s keep our belly button exposure restricted to sun bathing and swimming, shall we? This trend only works when wearing high-waisted jeans, pants and/or skirts.
- Wear it with a blazer or cardigan. Throw on a chic blazer or cardigan to complete the look. It also distracts people from the fact that you are indeed wearing a bikini top as a shirt. Ha!

Never done that but I saw a lot of girls rocking that look.
My 6 year old sums it up best… “Mommy!, that lady forgot to put a shirt on!”… really loud, pointing, as I’m dragging her away quickly.
hahaha! that is GREAT!
I’ve seen girls who totally rock the look, and some who just didn’t quite do it right. But I definitely don’t have the guts!
yeah it takes a gutsy lady to bare her mid drift!
I think this was popular in my town back in the early 90s, actually…
already did it!
