Champagne Problems What's it like growing up without a Dad?
JC Coccoli

Happy Father’s Day! Well, that is if you have a father. Which Lil Momma doesn’t (I’m Lil Momma). Now, don’t be sad for me. My mom was the jam and technically I had a father that mated with my mother, but he was all, “I ain’t ready to be a dad.” And my mom was all, “But JC is gonna be the jam when she’s older” and he was all, “Well, I’ll check back in then, then.” And with that, he dipped town for the good part of my growing up years (which I was pretty ugly-town for so I’m kind of glad he didn’t see me like that). But then he surfaced just recently (which, weirdly enough was pretty cool). That story is for another day…

For now, does any of the above sound familiar? Do you get a little bummed on Father’s Day? Don’t! Why? Well, because anybody can be a rad father figure without actually mating with your mom. So long as you look up to them and they’ve taught you well, young Skywalker. Many times, people get down about the fact they came from a broken home or even that they didn’t live in a cul-de-sac n’ junk and then years later they grow out of it with a chip on their shoulder. A chip that turns into online dating but, way too terrified to actually follow through…eh hm.. But, I say nay to feeling bad about something like that and I say yay to embracing it and not letting it deter you from wanting the best dad in town for your own little litter later down the line (A lot of Ls on that one).

Since you are going to miss out on buying a boring stripe tie for good ole’ dad this year, why not take the time to call up the other manly folk that played a key role in your existence? It would mean the world to them and it’s as simple as thanking them for being around when others weren’t. It can’t hurt. Plus, you are who you are because of the people that influenced you in your life, so pay it forward and let them you know appreciate them for what they did to mold you into the fantastic, independent chica you are today. And if you need me, I’ll be crank calling my “Real Dad” this Sunday every hour on the hour because even though I don’t know him that well, I can tell he’ll find it incredible.
