Cocktail Confidential Vanilla Grapefruit Margarita Claire Lassam

Let’s forget about winter for a second. Let’s forget about the cold, the rain, the fact that it’s January… Let’s pretend that the weather is warmer, the sun is shining and the words polar and vortex have never before been used in the same sentence.

Now, let’s keep that in mind and make a cocktail. Something that screams beaches and warm weather and general merriment.

Let’s make a vanilla-grapefruit margarita, and pretend we’re somewhere else. Okay?

Vanilla Grapefruit Margarita

  • 1 ½ oz Tequila
  • ½ oz Triple Sec
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 ½  oz Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
  • ½ lime
  • 1 drop vanilla extract
  • Salt for the rim (poured onto a plate)

Take your time and dampen the edge of your glass with it. Now put that edge into the salt and turn it around until it’s salty all over.

In the bottom of the glass, mix the sugar and grapefruit juice and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Add in the tequila, triple sec, vanilla and a bit of a squeeze of lime.

Taste it for seasoning, and then make more, lots more.
