TRACK OF THE DAY: "Losing You"
Courtney Batzofin

Welcome back, Solange. The Knowles sisters can do no wrong. Solange’s new single “Losing You” dropped this week and it’s a doozy. Synth beats and Solange’s breezy vocals meld with “eclectic ’80s references and African percussion influences” to form what is sure to be one of fall’s hit tracks. I’ve already listened to it 30 times today. Compulsion is only a problem if you say so. It recalls some ‘Bryan Ferry through the rabbit hole’-type smooth jazz. The video was shot in Cape Town, South Africa, which is one of the most beautiful places in the world and an astounding backdrop to showcase Solange’s excellence. The track was produced by Dev Hynes and put out by Terrible Records, a label co-run with one of the guys from Grizzly Bear. Tearing away from the track itself, the fashions in the video are enough to make any Vogue reader worth her salt drop dead. Graphic prints, bold suiting and brands like Kenzo and vintage J. Crew form a new aesthetic that is at once both retro and modern. And the HOT SHORTS! Also, The Le Sape movement is represented with neon suiting and dapper gentlemen smoking pipes. What more can you ask for?
