Some of us here at HelloGiggles who were born pre-nineties may remember her as a face in a city taxi in the direct-to-video hit How the West was Fun or maybe as the nosy, pesky sister in the opening theme of a certain musical mystery series. But between the year 1994 and now, that little girl has blossomed into a woman to watch. That little girl is… Elizabeth Olsen. Here in the office we like to call her Lizzie, you know, like we are really close friends and not just somewhat close friends but like, BFF bracelet sharing close friends.
Though she may have been born and raised in Los Angeles, Elizabeth Olsen waited years to cross the line into Hollywood territory. Sister to Mary-Kate and Ashley, Elizabeth is not just the “little Olsen” but an actress in her own right. Unlike her siblings, this Olsen lived her childhood away from the spotlight. Having spent the last four years honing her craft at the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, the young actress has found her time to shine in a style all her own. (She is the namesake of the line Elizabeth + James after all…)
Olsen has been deemed this year’s breakout star at the Sundance Film Festival, and why shouldn’t she be? The fashionable 22-year-old has three films under her belt already this year, as well as two more on the way in 2012. Starring in this October’s Martha Marcy May Marlene, a psychological thriller from director Sean Durkin, Olsen plays a troubled young woman trying to assimilate into normal daily life after a stint with a crazy New England cult. Though many her age may find it easier to step out onto the scene in a traditional Rom-Com, this newbie does not tread as lightly. Elizabeth gives a stunning performance as she fearlessly embraces this very risky and challenging role.
With her edgy film choices and quirky style, Elizabeth Olsen is sure to turn heads. We can already picture her shaking hands with Eddie Murphy at next spring’s Academy Awards ceremony. What will she wear on the red carpet? Whatever she dons, Olsen will be accepting her award in true fashion.
