The 12 Best Red Carpet Looks of 2012

Since the beginning of the year, we’ve seen tons of celebrities walk the red carpet in gorgeous gowns, but there are a select few ensembles that I believe stand apart from the rest. So, in honor of 2012’s end, I present to you my list of the 12 best red carpet looks of the year.

1. Viola Davis

Davis has worn many beautiful gowns on the red carpet this year, but her white and gold Marchesa dress from the Screen Actors Guild Awards was not only absolutely stunning but also my pick for the best gown of the evening.

2. Zooey Deschanel

Back in September, the HelloGiggles co-founder and New Girl star shined at the Emmy Awards in what has to be my favorite red carpet look of hers to date: an ice-blue Reem Acra gown with pink lips and a retro updo.

3. Jane Fonda

At the Cannes Film Festival in May, Fonda stepped out in a burgundy Roberto Cavalli gown and proved that age has nothing to do with how fabulous you can look on the red carpet. I mean, seriously, she looks freakin’ amazing.

4. Diane Kruger

As a juror for the Cannes Film Festival, Kruger had the opportunity to strut her stuff on the red carpet in a number of stylish dresses. However, her ethereal Giambattista Valli gown from the Moonrise Kingdom premiere was simply divine. 2012’s Grace Kelly, anyone?

5. Leslie Mann

When I first saw Mann on the Emmys red carpet, I instantly fell in love with her look. Everything from the yellow skirt of her Naeem Khan dress to its beaded bodice and her turquoise jewelry was chic, and I think it’s fair to say that her ensemble was a stylishly refreshing take on red-carpet wear.

6. Kate Middleton

Her Royal Highness is no stranger to donning beautiful ensembles for lavish events, but the Jenny Packham gown she wore to the BOA Olympic Concert in May was just too pretty to be ignored. Brava, Duchess!

7. Gwyneth Paltrow

Anyone who wears a cape on the red carpet and makes it look ultra-fab is okay in my book, which is why Paltrow’s sleek Tom Ford Oscar ensemble is one of my favorite red carpet outfits of 2012.

8. Rihanna

Rihanna is known for rocking sexy and stylish outfits on the red carpet, and her black Armani gown from the Grammy Awards is no exception. Collectively, her pointed-toe heels, eye-catching gold accessories and dress make for one of the year’s best ensembles.

9. Solange

Peplum and the color yellow were both huge fashion trends this year, and Solange took them to another level with her bold, expertly tailored and all-around elegant Rachel Roy gown from the Met Gala in May.

10. Octavia Spencer

I can imagine that winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress was a memorable moment for Spencer, but her glamorous and intricately beaded Tadashi Shoji gown was certainly one of the year’s most memorable red carpet dresses as well.

11. Emma Stone

Similar to how Solange dressed to impress at this year’s Met Gala, Stone wowed at the star-studded event in a floral Lanvin frock, black heels and a playful messy updo. Super cute!

12. Michelle Williams

Williams never disappoints me with her fashion choices at the Oscars, and although she hasn’t won an Academy Award yet, she definitely looked like a winner in this exquisite coral Louis Vuitton gown from the 2012 ceremony.

Now that I’ve made my selections for the best red carpet looks of 2012, I want to know yours! Did any of these make your list of favorites? Or did you fall in love with others? Feel free to share your picks in the comments section!
