Sex is known to help with all sorts of things, from better sleep to improved moods – but what if we told you getting freaky also helped you remember stuff?
That’s right: A new study has found another way that sex benefits our health, now linking frequent sexual activity with improved memory — especially when it comes to word recognition.
For the study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, researchers interviewed 78 women between 18 and 29 about their sexual history, then did a memory test of words and photos.
Interestingly, women who reported having more penetrative sex were significantly better at remembering the words and photos than women who reported being less sexually active.
Researchers believe penetrative sex could help the growth of new brain cells in the hippocampus, which is linked to word memory.
But in case you were looking for another excuse to get it on tonight: Well, here you go. You’re welcome.
