Slideshows Summer Lovin' Eliza Hurwitz

When I was younger, I wished I was the type of person that went to Summer camp. But the thought of being away from home for an extended period of time deterred me from ever going. I would get homesick after one night spent at a friend’s house. So there was no way I would’ve lasted a month at camp.

But I was always jealous of my friends that went to sleep away camp for the Summer. They seemed to have had such a great time, meeting new people and taking part in all the events the camp had to offer. So for today’s gallery I’ve compiled pictures of typical, fun summer camp activities. Did you guys go to Summer camp?

  1. Camp Winnataska is my home away from home! I still attend summer camp every summer, and I am eighteen! I mean, technically I attend as a counselor. But we all know the real reason I go is so I can throw dignity out the window and act like a crazy kid!

  2. I was exactly the same way! Every summer I told myself I’d go, but then I’d start to think about what it would be like to leave my family, and all the home stuff I’d miss out on so I never went!

  3. I went to Harry Potter summer camp. Pretty much 4th grade bliss.

  4. I work as a camp counselor. It’s a rewarding (and exhausting!) job, and I love camp just as much (if not more) than my kids!

  5. yay camp! I’m starting a camp social media project at (C is for Camp) as a result of my graduate research project. I want to share these images too…there’s a right program for everyone, where you can feel safe and actually feel like you can relax and be yourself instead of proving how “cool” you are :-)

  6. I didn’t go to summer camp because, like you, staying overnight at a friend’s house was just about as long as I’d be comfortable being away from my family. When my sister and I used to fight in the summer my mom would say, “If you guys don’t stop all this fighting I’m sending you to camp next summer!” and then we’d behave, haha! I was a camp counselor at a day camp though, and loved it!

  7. I went to a week long summer camp once, probably around age 8 or 9. I had fun, and made friends, but I was so homesick! I hated it! All my friends seemed to be unfazed though. I much preferred the multi-day day camps where I could go home at night.
