Playlist of the Week Songs To Feel Like You're In The Hunger Games Corinne Caputo

It is likely that you are as excited for The Hunger Games movie as I am.  It is even more likely that you have imagined yourself as one of the characters and pictured how you would fight in the games, if you were chosen.

I’ve mentioned before that there are few things I love more than staring out the window of a car/bus/train on my commute and pretending that I’m a powerful character in a movie. Lately I’ve been imaging myself as Katniss. Katniss is brave, clever, and she puts her family first. Her greatest motivation throughout the games is to keep the promise to her younger sister, Prim, that she will try to win.

Katniss Everdeen is a female character I can get behind. While other female characters often become passive or are motivated exclusively by love, Katniss is fiercely independent and knows that The Hunger Games are not morally right. Katniss proves that not only are women just as capable as men but also, we don’t need to just accept a grim fate. We all have the power to change a terrible circumstance, or at least fight for a change.

I know that I have spent more just a few commutes imagining myself as Katniss Everdeen, fighting against The Capitol with my mockingjay pin on my shirt and bow and arrow on my back. Sometimes when I have to get somewhere quickly, I’ll pretend that one of the Careers is behind me so I’ll run… and then realize how strange it is to see someone walking down Lexington Ave who then breaks into a jog so I stop.

If I’ve learned anything from these daydreams it’s that a) I am in no physical shape to actually have a fighting chance in The Hunger Games and b) some songs are just awesome to listen to when you are caught up in your imagination.

So I put together some songs that really make me feel like I’m in The Hunger Games. I’ll admit, I did cheat and use two songs from the actual Hunger Games soundtrack but that soundtrack is just awesome! Have a listen to this playlist and tell me what you think!

  1. [...] added fun, do your shopping to the sounds of these songs that will make you feel like you, too, are on your way to the Arena—or at least, back [...]

  2. Help, I’m Alive by Metric!

  3. I just love any Immi Heap mention. :D

  4. I don´t know why but I think Born to Die by Lana del Rey is missing in that list

  5. Do you know a band called District Tribute? If you don’t you should. They’re named after HG, of course, and their “Finnick & Annie” song is BEAUTIFUL beyond words.

  6. Fantastic list and i looove the soundtrack of the movie, which is why i was really surprised that they didn’t use any songs at all in the film!
My friends and i spent the drive to the theater (over an hour trek to see it in the biggest theater we could find) listening to the soundtrack and trying to figure out where the songs would fit best and then hanging out for them once the movie started. It was so disappointing that we had to wait until the credits to hear any!

  7. Uprising- Muse

  8. Great list. Might just need to make it myself!

  9. Constant Knot – City and Colour
