You how how you feel when yet another genius Tumblr idea is unearthed? Like, “Duh! I totally should have thought of that.” Well you can go ahead and tack another one onto the list, thanks to “Mean Girls of Capitol Hill,” which totally can’t help that it’s so popular. 23 year-old Ellie Hall, an NBC News alum and soon-t0-be BuzzFeed reporter, has paired stills from Mean Girls with political pauses, and the result is something like a cake made out of rainbows and smiles. And I for one, am happy to eat it. Even if butter actually turns out to be a carb.
“If an idea pops into my head and makes me laugh, I’ll try to turn it into something that I can share with other people,” Hall said of her blog. Which totally proves that anyone can be successful at internetting if you put your creativity into motion. “Arrested Westeros,” “Scanwiches,” “What Should We Call Me”: They likely all started as a fleeting thought or a joke between friends and then, voila! Great success! Have an idea? Do something awesome with it. But you’re gonna have to look after it, like a pretty new pet. The idea is your pet. “Oh, my pretty little pet, I love you,” you’ll say. “So, I stroke it, and I pet it, and I massage it. Hehe, I love it, I love my little naughty pet, you’re naughty!” Know what I mean? Too many movie quotes for one post? Whatever.
Hall also deserves a pat on the back for the bipartisan nature of her political parody. It’s easy to knock on the opposition, but “political humor is funnier when you poke fun at everyone equally,” she pointed out.
So here’s to Ellie Hall on her hilarious Tumblr du-jour! Now go out there and get creative! Also: HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND!
