Work It ‘Personal Training with Jackie' – Bravo Indeed!
Bridget Carroll

We all know Jackie Warner. Well, those of us that live by the Bravo Bible do. And you know who you are. If Andy Cohen’s selling it, you’re buying it. You’re not discerning (except for maybe Eligible Dallas or Tabatha’s Salon Takeover – we have to draw the line somewhere.) So when Bravo premiered Work Out, a show following LA personal trainer Warner and her employees, you dutifully watched. And when she came back from her hiatus with a whole new show, Thintervention, you cheered.  And by you, of course I mean me.Although Personal Training with Jackie: Power Circuit Training didn’t air on Bravo, I figured I should still take a stab at it, being part of Jackie’s repertoire. On her shows she seemed to really know her stuff. Just look at her abs – they’re almost scary. Plus, she’s totally likeable. She’s like Scarlett Johannson’s older, super ripped, gay sister.

The Basics

According to the DVD box, Jackie’s “circuit training workouts command up to $400 an hour.” So the $9.99 price tag is actually a good deal. That’s like, 99% off or something. You’ll need a mat and some hand weights. Jackie recommends a light set and a heavier set.

The Workout

Jackie explains her MO in the intro. She does circuit training and each circuit is comprised of three exercises followed by the “Power Burn.” This basically means you do those three exercises right in a row at a faster tempo. The DVD is broken up into segments. You can do a 15 minute total body circuit, a lower body, upper body, abdominal, or 40 minute total body circuit. I went ahead and suffered through the 40 minute circuit for you guys. That’s just how I roll.

I’m a fan of circuit training as I’ve mentioned in my other reviews. The short segments seem to make the workouts go by faster and this video is no exception. Jackie starts us off with a very brief warm up and then we’re right into legs and lower body. She keeps the segments just long enough for you to get a little annoyed, but switches things up before you can throw your weights at the screen.

The abs section, as usual, was tough for me. She has you target your upper abs first, then your lower abs and obliques. This was a lot of abs! I was sore for a few days. But it will be well worth it when I’m rockin’ that six pack soon, right? Any day now…

The Bottom Line

Maybe it’s all the hours of watching Bravo, but Jackie makes this easy. Okay, not easy, but she makes it bearable. It’s like working out with a good friend – if that good friend happened to be a famous personal trainer you only know from watching their various reality shows through the years. She doesn’t yell at you, but she’s not sugar coating it, either. She just has a very amiable way about her, plus she knows what she’s talking about. You can trust her when she tells you to make sure your form is correct, so you better listen (unlike another Bravo star’s video.)

The workout is also pretty great. It’s a straight up strength training routine and perfect to throw into your mix, after a cardio workout or just on its own. I was totally sore the day after this, and a few days after that. I also like that you can concentrate on one area of the body if you want to and do arms one day, legs the next.

So though she may not be the queen of Bravo these days, I’d say Jackie still knows how to work those abs. Now if only Tom Colicchio would do a workout DVD. I’d be all set.

  1. I love her 15 minute abs video! Crazy good workout in a short amount of time, and your whole body is sore after. And the music is less annoying than most workout videos I’ve seen. And I also felt like I was working out with ScarJo’s ripped sister.

  2. I love Jackie! I wish I could have her come live with me for a year and whip my ass into shape.
