Eat of the Moment Perfect Classic Guacamole
Carrie Murphy

I know. Everyone knows how to make guacamole, right? That’s what I thought. But then I remembered that there’s tons of different versions of guacamole going around, because everyone these days worships at the altar of the almighty avocado. And some guacamole is just downright bad, even though it’s probably the hardest recipe to screw up. Yet screw it up some restaurants do (I’m looking at you, pseudo-Tex Mex place down the street from my apartment!)

So, I thought it might be helpful to share this recipe, this almost effortless make-it-with-your-eyes-closed-when-you’re-eighty-guacamole recipe. So here it is: the recipe for the easiest, home-run-hit-out-of-the-park-every-damn-time guacamole. Go forth, my friends, and eat.

Best Guacamole

total time: 5 minutes

total hands-on time: 5 minutes

What you’ll need:

  • 3 avocados
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup onions, diced
  • 1/2 of a large tomato, diced
  • 1/2 a bunch of cilantro, cut into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • kosher salt to taste (make sure it’s kosher, or sea salt, not iodized salt!)
  • garlic powder to taste

What you’ll do:

1. Put all of these things together in a bowl and mix them until they look like guacamole.

Nothing earth-shattering, I know. Just simple and classic, perfect guacamole for parties or gatherings or eating straight out of the bowl at 3 am, shhh that wasn’t me (Yes, it was). Put the pit from the avocado in the bowl if you’d like the mixture to keep from browning.

I’m sorry to say this is my last recipe post for HelloGiggles. It’s been a fun ride; I’ve shared 38 recipes, everything from gluten-free lemon cake to roasted chicken to champagne-poached pears here on Eat of the Moment. I’d love it if you’d follow along with my culinary adventures on my personal food blog, if you’re interested. Otherwise, I’ll see you in the comments of all of the great pieces here on HG. May you have flour on your nose, honey on your fingers, and happiness in your kitchen.

  1. Looks just like my recipe! It’s perfect!

  2. I also use fresh garlic in mine. Also, my secret ingredient is a hearty dash of cumin….shh…

  3. I use the same ingredients, garlic powder really makes it better, but i would recommend to mix the avocado first, then add the onions and cilantro and at the end the tomato (without seeds very important), some people don’t like the strong flavor of raw onion, so a tip is to put them in hot water a couple of minutes then stir and use. and if you want it to be creamer just add a bit of milk. And lil bit of black pepper wouldn’t hurt!

  4. and garlic! same “Recipe” i use, i just put garlic in mine.
