Anyone that can play a musical instrument is an instant idol of mine. I quit clarinet after two weeks in third grade and learning to play something else is always at the top of my resolution list. Taking this a step further, understanding the intricacies of a variety of instruments and mimicking them using only your voice is just plain genius. A cappella never interested me until I started watching “The Sing-Off” on NBC. This talent competition show was hosted by Nick Lachey (who I adore) and featured several a cappella groups competing for a record deal with Sony. On May 13, 2012, NBC announced that this show would not return for season four in order to make room for another talent competition show. I feel like Jack Donaghy would never let this happen, but whatever. The video you are about to see is by a group called Pentatonix, the winners of “The Sing Off” Season 3. This group was the clear winner, in my opinion, from the very beginning of the season. Not only can they mimic instruments, but they can also capture the beats of hip-hop, electro and dubstep that make you want to PUMP THAT FIST. It’s freaking magnificent. I urge you to watch the video below. Once you do that, watch the others because their level of talent and creativity will most certainly leave you wanting more. ENJOY!

This is my favorite! Can’t listen to Gotye’s version again.

Yes!! Their version of Somebody That I Used to Know is RIDIC.
Love Pentatonix and The Sing Off! I still think Ari must have a robotic voice box/be a robot to hit notes that low.
I must also reccomend their cover of “We Are Young” by Fun. It is, for lack of a better phrase, so much fun!
recommend*…whoops!

I lurved their version of Kanye’s “Love Lockdown”
I got chills that night from that performance!!
They performed Dog Days Are Over on the show and it’s jaw droppingly amazing.
Love Pentatonix and really want to see their popularity grow. So happy to see you’re spreading the word here on HG!! Pentatonix is performing at Universal Citywalk in LA on June 24th…wish I could go. They seem like a fun act to see live. Make sure to check out their live performances that have been posted on YouTube by their fans, too. It’s amazing to think three of them are recent high school grads who haven’t even finished college yet!
