Get Involved Pajamas for a Cause

"Every Punjammies tells the story of a girl who was once voiceless. You can be a part of re-building lives shattered by modern day slavery."

My friend Bhavna introduced me to International Princess Project, a nonprofit working to empower women formerly enslaved in prostitution.

Punjammies are  pajamas that are hand made in India by women who were rescued or have escaped from a life of forced prostitution. Each punjammie is handmade by a women in an after-care facility.

Punjammies are made from beautiful Indian Sari fabric.

Over 2 million women and children work as prostitutes in India (BBC). Every day 200 girls and women enter prostitution in India, 80% of them enter against their will and 35% who enter are under the age of 18. Usually these women enter prostitution because they are sold by their family, trafficked from another country or driven by desperation.

The vicious cycle of poverty, illiteracy and disease traps women and children in the sex trade.

When a women in India escapes from prostitution there are few places for her to go. It is very hard for women formerly working as prostitutes to go to school, return to their families, or find jobs to support themselves.

This mother had been forced to work in prostitution.
Today, she and her daughter work at a sewing center producing Punjammies.

It is important to teach each women marketable skills and how to support herself.

GET INVOLVED:

By purchasing Punjammies you provide
fair-trade wages, savings accounts, and recovery care for the women who made them.

Hosting a Punjammie party in your home is a unique opportunity to
support the women in India by educating your family and friends.

  1. This is, quite possibly, the best post I have seen yet. 1) I’m obsessed with saris. they are oh so beautiful and 2) I’m a woman – clearly- so i’m pretty bias about forced prostitution. I will be looking more into this. Thanks much~~ <3
