The Heatley Cliff My So Called Geriatric Television
Amy Foster

Look friends…Let’s talk.

If you saw one of us ladies from the Heatley Cliff, you’d probably think we were spectacularly cool. We look pretty hip-

Wow, I just ruined it by saying the word hip, didn’t I?

Okay.

Well the truth is we are cool.  We’re cool because we don’t really care if you think we’re cool.  Make sense?  We know there are plenty of other ladies out there that think like us, that’s why we created The Heatley Cliff: A PRETEND ENGLISH MANOR HOUSE. There’s a reason that we play tea party here and not, say, France, or Italy or New England or The Hamptons.  This is because we can basically fanfic all over the amazing television shows that comprise almost all of our viewing pleasure (that is when Amy isn’t all over the CW and Sher hasn’t gone catatonic watching Sons of Anarchy).

This week, the podcast is about our beloved British TV programmes.  Look, we read Hello Giggles.  We’ve read the many cheers and nods to Downton Abbey.  We get it, and we love that show too.  But it’s kind of the lowest hanging fruit around here, no?  How about a caustic police officer trying to solve complex cases in the middle of WWII? Or two hardworking seamstress sisters who launch an uber successful fashion line in the roaring ’20s? Or how about the exciting adventures of an independent post mistress and her sassy charge trying to work it out in 19th century Oxfordshire?

Those shows, Foyle’s War, House of Eliott and Lark Rise to Candleford, respectively, are just SOME of the ones we talk about this week.  It’s not all period dramz – we love Dr. Who and Being Human, too.  Truthfully, we’re all over just about anything with a British accent.  We love the quality and splendour of UK TV, the vibe… Here’s what we don’t like- CSI, Law and Order, NCIS, Bones, Castle, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead… Murder! Kidnapping! Kids in Peril! Rape! Sure, they have those things in the British Television we love, but somehow it’s more refined and much less gratuitous – note the new Sherlock series.

So come on over and join us at The Heatley Cliff. Put on your coziest jumper and Sher will make homemade scones for your tea.  We’ll hunker down and put on the telly – you MUST watch Regency House Party.
