Must Have: Long Necklaces
by MaryBeth Perrin
HI GIGGLES!
Today’s handmade fave is a super long necklace… super long, like “all the way past your waist gets caught on the table when you stand” long. I have a lot of these as they are surprisingly affordable and lend themselves to a variety of uses and become a great dramatic prop for twisting ’round one’s finger when trying to grab the bartender’s attention. I wear them long, looped a couple times, knotted halfway, wrapped around my wrist and once, for a theme night, I McGyver’d a tiara with one, some twist ties and some bobby pins. They are, hands down, the most versatile items I own.
With a little imagination I bet you could come up with your own novel way to rock them that’s all you. My dearest, Kat, wore a few chunkier ones layered when she went out dancing in San Francisco last week and got mucho attention for them She even got a ‘Holy Necklace!’ exclamation from a passerby!
The one featured is this really cool sleek modern one from Margaret Nowak Dobos at mysistersart.com. All the pieces are handmade by her right here in LA County. Dedicated to sustainable design, environmental consciousness and responsibility and an aesthetic interest in architectural form, her designs are simple, structural and sophisticated with a bit of an edge.
