Misattributed Quotes

Thanks to Facebook profiles, Fox News anchors and inspirational coffee mugs, great quotes can easily be taken out of context.

This is for anyone who has ever wondered why context matters:

“Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”
-Khloe Kardashian

“Speak softly and carry a big stick.”

“Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
-Mrs. Gorbachev

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/ By any other name would smell as sweet”

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
-Pitbull (ft. T-Pain)

“May the force be with you.”
-General David Patraeus

“I’ll be back.”
-The first 10 Land Before Time animated movies

This drives me nuts. Another page I follow on Facebook (which shall remain nameless) attributed the following Frank Sinatra quote to Kate Moss: “The best revenge is massive success.” I tried to politely point out their mistake since everyone was “liking” it and commenting on it and I got some unkind words from the administrator in response. If you’re going to have tens of thousands of people read what you write, it’s best to check your sources.

I’m fairly certain that #4 was actually written by Shakespeare and not said by Seal….

Well….maybe it was said by seal….but they are Shakespeare’s words. See: Romeo and Juliet Re: Romeo’s plight over Juliet being a Capulet, the one mortal enemy of his father and Montague family

LOL, obviously they’re all incorrect and ridiculous. The author is aware of that and is poking fun.
