I’ve always wanted a charm bracelet, I like(d) the idea of building a bracelet based on the charms I get to choose and so this summer, I finally got one. Let me tell you about the charms on my bracelet.

The Skateboard: I love to ride on my skateboard. I’m not the best at it. I guess I’m pretty decent. When I was 7 and 3/4′s, I talked about feminism in this episode of Smart Girls at the Party and I rode my skateboard and I know I was pretty bad. But hey, I was only 7 and 3/4′s. I think I’m better these days at skating!

The Heart: I don’t really have a reason for it! (lol) I just like hearts and it is such a cool looking heart, eh?

The Turtle: I looooooooove turtles SOSOSOSOSO MUCH! They are amazing. If I ever get a turtle I am going to name it “The Speed Of Light.” Then, I can tell all my friends that I can run faster than the speed of light and IT WILL FINALLY BE TRUE!!!!

The Key: This key is just like, cool! My mom says it is the key to my heart…… mep.

The Shark: Okay, if you follow me on twitter, you will see that I tweet about how my Mom is HORRIFIED to go into the ocean but loves reading surf magazines. If you say “shark” or “Hawaii” she will tell you all the shark attacks that are going on in that state or just the latest attack anywhere in the world. She reads this website a lot, http://sharkattackinfo.com, which I guess tells her what’s going on in the world of shark attacks. It’s kind of a weird obsession, I know, but I love her anyways!

The Football: You know I love sports, especially football and also, that I’ve had some issues playing at school because I’m a girl. This charm is a reminder of how much I love football and how I should not give up playing ever. I have been playing since Pre-K and I am now in 6th grade and I am not going to stop!

The Piano: When my friends Paul and June got married, I wrote them a wedding song on the piano (“Paul, my old friend/June, my new friend/Together you make two…”). I love to write songs on the piano, and this charm represents my passion, which is music.

The Guitar: The guitar is my favorite instrument to play. I loveloveloveloveLOVE to sing and playing guitar helps, and makes me feel more original, and I tend to write more songs on the guitar than any other instrument.
So that’s my charm bracelet for now and I hope I can keep adding charms that I find that mean something to me as much as these 8 charms do!
See you next week, and all the time on twitter/rubykarp.

Where did you get the Charm Bracelet?? I always wanted to make one but I dunno where to get em.
Seriously, how can you do so much??? I’m twice your age and I can’t do that much!
I love your charm bracelet!
hey there ruby! i have a charm bracelet too, and i used to get nifty charms whenever i traveled, but i stopped getting them about a decade ago…you’ve inspired me to startup again! btw, you’re the coolest thing about canada, montreal jazz festival not withstanding. well, maybe you’re cooler than that! cheers!
I’ve had one for YEARS it has a San Francisco charm that was my moms it says “I left my heart in San Francisco”, a flamingo because I love them, a California state charm(that’s where I was born and raised), a four leaf clover for my Irish heritage and a nautical star also because I love them. It came witha a solid silver heart that I had my initials engraved on. When I first got ti my mom gave me a nurses cap charm because I am a nurse but it got caught on my sweater one day in the car and snapped off and I have never been able to find it and like I said that was YEARS ago! lol
I’ve always wanted to have a charm bracelet and finally got it when I was travelling around in Istanbul. In addition to the Turtle, key and guitar mine has an anchor, a shiprear, an autmn shed leaf, a flower, intertwined dolphins, a twirling sufi….and a hellokitty, yeah yeah I know. For some reason they had the weirdest charms and no cat…I. need. a. cat O_o
hi everyone! tell me about your charms and your charm bracelets!
-ruby from my moms facebook
I have a charm bracelet that was my mother’s when she was in high school. And over the years I have added charms that mean somehing to me and kept her charms, so it is sort of a mother/daughter charm bracelet. My favorite charm on my bracelet is a little bitty spark plug, because I sell auto parts for a living! I love your idea for naming your turtle! So cute!
It’s really awesome that you’re so passionate about so many different things. It’s the sign of a truly interesting person, I think. (: Keep it up—especially with the music! I can’t say enough how much I wish I’d started playing guitar at a younger age.
