We're looking for a few good women

You know you want to write for us.

Hello there human reading this,

Do you love HelloGiggles? Would you like to expound upon that love and contribute to our site? Well, you’ve come to the right place.

We are looking to add to our contributor roster, to bring in your fresh stories, your funny ideas, your gorgeous illustrations and expand our beloved HelloGiggles community.

So, what exactly are we looking for?

Glad you asked. We are especially interested in personal essays and cultural criticism with unique and diverse points of view, LGBTQ perspectives, smart articles with original reporting, short fiction, and illustrations.

What’s right for us: Newsy stories that celebrate people doing awesome things and being awesome to each other, that highlight creativity, dream jobs, positive body image, perfect lipsticks, learning to be an adult. Topical pieces that discuss great moments in culture, the trickiness of friendships, the weirdness of relationships, stories on obsessions, what it’s really like to be a woman, essays that explore tough times (whether it be the big crises, or the small “I just don’t like myself this morning” moments), stories that make us feel like we’re all in this together.

What’s not right for us: Snark, girl on girl crimes, takedown pieces

Who we’re looking for:

  • Funny, honest, smart, creative people with strong writing and grammar skills and the ability to spin an interesting yarn.
  • Writers who can make a commitment to contribute to HelloGiggles at least one time per week.
  • Artists and illustrators who want to share their work with the HelloGiggles community
  • People who make us laugh really hard
  • Like-minded folks who don’t take themselves too seriously

Does this sound like a dream come true? Email us at pitches@hellogiggles.com with a short bio (one paragraph please) and what you’d like to write about. If you have a blog, send us the link. If you have writing samples, send them along.

We can’t wait to hear from you.

But are you going to pay your writers? An indepth, once-a-week assignment with no payment is pretty uncool.

    • SugarShane

If you’ve read some of the articles, you’d wonder why they would be paid. Many of the articles are one-sided, not researched, lack depth, or are blatantly man bashing or sexist. You know who is making money? HG. That’s why even short articles are three separate pages. I hope it gets better but I have seen a ton of crap articles.

      • Kat Salim

Sexist. I don’t think that word means what you think it means!

        • SugarShane

I don’t think half the people that call themselves feminists know what it means.

          • Barbara Young

My guess is you don’t like the fact that we do know what it means but it’s not what you want to believe it is. I would argue that there are many more feminists of both sexes that fear or resist subscribing to the label due to pushed misrepresentations and misperceptions. Attempts to malign and hijack the simple definition of feminism by people who have no understanding of the issue or perhaps fear the adjustment real equality might require in their lives has led to some rejection of the name but not the actual concept.

            • SugarShane

Your guess is wrong. I don’t like the fact that many women that call themselves feminists still bash men when the idea is gender equality. I would argue that the reason that many don’t subscribe to the label is the result of radical feminists that are man haters. They get the spotlight, just like radical Muslims. A small minority that gives a bad name and image to the vast majority. It’s not a fear of equality, it’s a fear of a loss of status and privilege, real or imagined. Much in the way that women want equal pay, but not equal responsibility for paying for things. Men should still pay the bills and pick up the tab on dates. It isn’t only men that are afraid of losing the privileges they already enjoy. Many women love to have a man take care of them financially and still think they are feminists. That’s not equality.

I’m also wondering about payment. I’m very interested, but I’m also very poor.

As with everyone else, I am also wondering about compensation. If it’s just a byline, great! If it includes a little $, even better! Thanks.

  • Jennifer Romolini

Guys, we pay for assigned posts! We try to be cool like that 😉

Awesome!! I just remember a past post where you guys mentioned it was not paid so I’m really happy to see that it is now!

    Hey there!

This sounds SUPER exciting!! Before I get my hopes up too high, though – do I need to be a US citizen to apply, or would you welcome international applications? Say, for example, from beautiful, sunny, Australia…

I don’t think so. I think they’re always looking for new writers. This post is just a broadcast.

I definitely will be getting in touch. I can’t think of a better way to start my summer. Earlier today I found some random word documents filled with random topics on goals, motivations, ideas, and perspectives. But it’s definitely going to take me some time to create a good bio.
