I’m not athletic.
I mean, I can go to the gym, I can do pilates, I used to ski every winter from the ages of 18 to 18, I can ice skate and rollerskate, I played basketball on the school team in 7th grade, I can run (though I don’t always like to). So I mean, I guess I’m just not great at team sports (I was only good at foul shots so was instructed to try to get fouls in every game) so that makes me think I’m not athletic.
But I did start running recently. And I do like it now (even though I need specific music to get through it) because I really do think it helps me clear my head. It’s a relatively easy thing to just add into your day and just that simple act offsets some of the food I enjoy eating so I’m always in favor of that.
All this means is, I decided earlier this year to run a 5k.
I’ve never run 3 miles in one sitting (running?) in my life. I’ve run 1 mile, 1.5, 2 maybe 2 and a quarter but never 3.1 miles all at once. So I thought it’d be a fun challenge and the main reason really, was that it was The Color Run.
The Color Run in NYC was the day after my 28th birthday and my anniversary of 10 years in the city so it felt like a nice commemoration of these two events (who DOESN’T want to get up really early and run a 5k the day after their birthday?!). My husband and mom signed up as well and then we prepared.
We did no real training except just kept running as we normally would which worked out well for us since the point of The Color Run is that it’s fun and not taken too seriously. No one is timing you, no one is judging you, it’s just a good time and they throw this like powdered color at you at each “k” of the run.
We didn’t really know what to expect when we went into this but their website has a ton of videos and photos and it just looked REALLY fun.
And it was. I mean, we ran the whole thing but LOTS of people walked. And it’s really fun to take before and after pictures of.

And it’s also fun to take a ton of after pictures with your Color Run temporary tattoo and pretend to be a bad ass.
I painted my nails in rainbow colors with glitter (obviously) and got a Color Run fanny pack to hold my stuff during the run and a Color Run trucker hat for after and basically I love colors and I think that’s what made me able to run the full time.

This year’s runs are wrapping up soon (well, November or so) but then there’s always 2013!
Definitely a great “first” 5k and considering I have no desire to run anything longer than this, it was a perfect activity for me.
Did any of you guys do The Color Run? I want to see your pictures!

I would love to do the Color Run! I really love to run with my music in the background. Although I’m not an avid runner, I like to jog once in a while to clear my head. It’s great!
I’m doing the Color Run in Chicago on Oct 14th! I’m so excited and a little nervous since I’m not a runner at all and oh I have asthma. I can’t wait to just run (walk) with my friends and get splashed with color!
I did the color run in Indianapolis at the end of July… it was AMAZING!!! I can’t wait for next year. And in the meantime, there is always the Hot Chocolate 5K making its rounds.
I also did the Color Run in Sacramento this summer! It was seriously the best! I can’t wait for next summer so I can do it again in Sac and maybe SF too!!!
Omg! I’m doing the colour run next weekend!! I”m so excited.
I did the color run in Sacramento with my mom this past summer and it was one of the highlights of my summer! EVERYONE should do it.
