Katy Perry says her 30s have taught her that not all relationships have to "end in marriage"

We’ve heard that everything starts to make sense in your 30s and, according to Katy Perry, it’s true. Katy Perry learned in her 30s that marriage isn’t always the key to being happy, and we totally agree.

As Vogue‘s May cover star, Perry is opening up about her style, childhood, and, of course, love. Instead of talking about specific romances, the California native explained what’s different about love in her 30s. Or, at least what she has learned since leaving her twenties.

“I’ve learned a lot of lessons — patience, the art of saying no, that everything doesn’t have to end in marriage,” Perry told the magazine about being 32 years old.

Preach, Katy, preach!

There is often a knee-jerk instinct to treat all relationships as a litmus test for “can I marry this person?” We think you should approach your relationship however you want, but oftentimes we forget that you don’t have to get married or even spend your entire life with your partner. Do you!

The “Chained to the Rhythm” singer also explained what she thinks about being in her 30s in general.

“It’s a nice place to be,” she explained. “I love it! I wouldn’t give anything to go back to my 20s; I’m so much more grounded.”

Again, we say, Katy, you’re one of our many female role models!

In addition to talking about marriage and the lessons she’s learned as she’s grown older, Perry’s career has also evolved in a good way with age.

“I blasted off on a rocket, holding on for dear life,” she explained about her breakout success in 2010. “But I had so much ambition and determination, and that’s what kept me going. The rocket was riding me for a bit, but now I am riding the rocket.”

We don’t care how Perry got to this point, be we are loving the musical and personal growth we’ve been seeing.

It’s so inspirational to be happy in your skin, and we definitely look forward to our 30s even more now.
