A lot of true fans, including myself, have been looking forward to Super Bowl Sunday for a long time. It’s a day to be with friends, eat delicious snacks, and of course, watch the big game; and there are some really fierce competitors this year. It’s time for the biggest event in the whole wide world of sports…The Puppy Bowl.

Sure, you could watch the real Super Bowl to see the New England Patriots and the New York Giants go head to head, but what’s the point? They have all been training and working ridiculously hard to get to what could be the biggest game of their careers, but where are the puppies? Hmmmm? Great, maybe Eli Manning makes another 99 yard pass, but will he stop in the middle of the field to sniff another player’s butt? I don’t think so. That’s what makes The Puppy Bowl so spectacular. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN!

This year, the lineup looks fierce. With over 50 different pups coming from far and wide, each representing a different rescue agency, it’s truly anybody’s game. Will it be Oscar the Dachshund from Furever Dachshund Rescue? He was benched quite a few times this season, but has promised to keep his barking in check. Or, Leroy Brown the Chihuahua/Terrier Mix from The Chattahoochee Humane Society? He’s getting a lot of press this year so the pressure is on. And word has it he has a score to settle with Eurika, another Chihuahua/Terrier Mix from the same rescue organization. They’ve had a lifelong rivalry for over 10 weeks now! Oh, and keep an eye on Penelope, the Lhasa Apso Mix from K9 Best Friends Forever. She was recently traded and rumor has it was not happy about it. For what it’s worth, my money is on Portia, the Corgi Mix from Pet Matchmaker Rescue for MVP (Most Valuable Puppy). She’s a true underdog, and my personal favorite.

At the end of the day, the choice is simple. Gronkowski scoring another touchdown (zzzzzzzzzz), or watching Hollie, the Border Collie Mix from the Pennsylvania SPCA, drinking from the water bowl cam? Did I mention that there’s going to be a piglet pep squad rooting for your favorite pups!?! That’s right, A PIGLET PEP SQUAD! And the Kitty Halftime Show, AND a hamster in a blimp! So, sit back, relax and enjoy the greatest gift you can give to yourself. Football schmootball; SEE YOU AT THE PUPPY BOWL!
