ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day: Trader Joe's Speculoos Cookie Butter Mary Dacuma

If you have Instagram or friends with Instagram, you probably have seen this. And if you live by a Trader Joe’s, you may even have bought this. Speculoos Cookie Butter has kind of gone viral (in the Internet sense, not the health sense), and for good reason. Trust the hype and get your hands on a jar because it is some kind of wonderful.

Speculoos Cookie Butter has the same consistency as nut butters, but it doesn’t contain nuts of any kind. It does, however, contain actual crushed Speculoos biscuits (Belgian cookies spiced with ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper) and magic. That last ingredient isn’t listed on the label. But once you’ve tasted this stuff, you’ll know that it’s implied. It’s sort of like sweet gingerbread or snickerdoodles. And it goes wonderfully on bread, crackers, veggies, ice cream and even candy bars.

When you get a chance, I highly recommend heading over to your nearest Trader Joe’s and picking this up. It costs less that $4, which is super cheap for a jar of happiness.

  1. Yeah… sounds amazing, but I gotta see the nutritional value before I even touch the stuff. How bad is it for you? I don’t want to get addicted to something that’s 400 calories for 2 tablespoons… if ya know what I mean. ;)

  2. It’s called Speculoospasta, it was invented a few years ago on a television show in Belgium, where people could propose the ideas or new product they have. That guy is stinkin rich now :)

If you REALLY want the good stuff, order the Lotu Speculaaspasta Crunchy. It has some cookie crumble in it :)

  3. TJ’s is also now selling a chocolate bar filled with Speculoos. It is all kinds of divine.

  4. I’m sad. I want to partake in the magic. But I cannot. Damn you celiac disease. Damn you straight to hell.

  5. This was literally my favorite food in France. I ate Speculoos a lot while I was there (it made the best crepes)! They also carry a version (that tastes the same) at Wegmans, called Biscoff if you don’t live near a Trader Joes.

  6. I can’t begin to explain how good this is. This article reminded me that I need to go buy more. It isn’t too sweet, but has the perfect blend of spices to make it utterly delicious. Seriously, once you start eating it, you’ll never want to stop. Ever.

  7. We call it crack in a jar . It’s highly addictive.
