For nearly 10 years, my parents have purchased delicious Fuji apples from Mr. Ha and his adorable family at the Cerritos Farmer’s Market. Mr. Ha is super cool – he really hooks it up with the apple samples even though I already know his apples are wonderful. His prices are always reasonable and I feel good about buying from him because his apples are locally grown in his mountain orchards. (We HelloGigglers love socially responsible shopping.)
In addition to fresh apples, Mr. Ha sells a variety of healthy, homemade products including no sugar added fruit leather, all-natural dried fruit, apple cider vinegar, different flavors of jellies and my all time favorite: Mr. Ha’s Apple Butter.
Ha’s Fuji Apple Butter is not like the kind you get at restaurants that’s more like apple-infused butter. Think of it as super-thick, cinnamon-y apple sauce that you can spread over your toast or other snacks. The all-natural, non-dairy, non-fattening, vegetarian apple butter contains no added sugars of any kind, which is amazing considering how sweet it is! In fact, the only ingredients are his farm-fresh Fuji apples, cinnamon, allspice and clove. The apple butter is a perfect healthy alternative to sugar-heavy jams and jellies.
Even though I live almost an hour away now, I sometimes still make the trek on Saturday mornings just for this butter. I like to use it in place of mayo in my ham sandwiches. (Apples and pork work really well together, FYI.) I recently put this on homemade cheddar biscuits with prosciutto for a brunch and it was a huge hit. I highly recommend this on wheat toast or in your own experimental recipes.
If Cerritos, CA is near you, the Farmer’s Market runs every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Mr. Ha is kind of in the center. If Cerritos, CA is nowhere near you, you can purchase Mr. Ha’s Apple Butter, along with myriad other snacks and spreads, at www.hasapplefarm.com. A jar costs $6 plus shipping.
