ITEM OF THE DAYItem of the Day: Miss Jessie's Quick CurlsKerry Winfrey

I used to feel like my hair just wasn’t made for this world. I was stumbling through the world of hair care, using whatever curl-specific mousse or gel I could find at the drugstore, inevitably hating the crunchy or greasy texture they gave my hair. Until Carrie Murphy told me about Miss Jessie’s Quick Curls.

I’ll warn you upfront that Miss Jessie’s is a little more expensive than your basic drugstore stuff. The bottle I have was about $32 at Target, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Trust me when I say that I’m incredibly cheap, and I’d never pay this much for something that wasn’t out-of-this-world amazing.

If you’re a curly-haired lady, you need to get yourself Quick Curls right now. Quick Curls doesn’t make my hair stiff or heavy. Instead, it helps my hair form totally natural, soft curls. As the name suggests, it really does dry quickly and it smells great.

My hair is fine and wavy/curly, but in Miss Jessie’s shop you can find products for every kind of curl. Their website says that Quick Curls is perfect for “our beautiful white gals,” which is a description that I very much love. From now on, I’m going to refer to myself exclusively as a beautiful white gal everywhere that I can (Twitter bio? Resume?).

Miss Jessie’s is also a favorite of tons of celebrities, including Joss Stone, Alicia Keys and The Roots. Seriously, if you aren’t going to take hair care advice from Questlove, then that’s your problem.

You can order Quick Curls from the Miss Jessie’s website.

  1. I use Miss Jessie’s Curl Meringue and I love it. Yes it does cost more than any other hair product I’ve ever bought but the curls I get are worth it. Besides I don’t have to use very much at all so it will last forever. I’m used to using so much more and I tried using more of the meringue but it weighed my hair down. Miss Jessie has great sells every couple months too. Last year, they had a half off sell and then a few months later, they had a buy one get one free sell. Great deal!

  2. I have to kindly disagree. I find that their products are way too expensive, especially for the low quality of ingredients. Call me a hippy, but I’d pay a little less at Lush cosmetics for their “R&B” and “The Big Tease” before buying another Miss Jessie’s product. Also, their owners wear weaves, so I’m unconvinced of how great their products are…

    • Actually, co-founder Titi Branch wears her hair natural, and sister/co-founder Miko alternates between her short natural hair and extensions when she feels like having her hair long. We respectfully disagree on the quality of the ingredients, which include avocado oil, Shea butter, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, aloe, macadamia oil…
