ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day: Joy the Baker Cookbook Kerry Winfrey

Joy Wilson, also known as Joy the Baker, is kind of my hero. She has a killer food blog, a hilarious podcast and she seems like a genuinely nice person. She can write about pie and make you feel like she’s actually your real-life friend. But this post isn’t about how Joy the Baker is awesome and I’m totally in love with her. This post is about her fabulous Joy the Baker Cookbook.

The cover promises “a celebration of butter and sugar,” and let me tell you, this book delivers. If you’re in the mood for breakfast, there are Oatmeal Cookie Pancakes, Brown Butter Blueberry Muffins and Vegan Pumpkin Pecan Bread. If you’re looking for chocolate, there are Chocolate Fudge Brownies with Chocolate Buttercream Frosting and Chocolate Malt Bread Pudding. Even if you’re looking for something healthy-ish, Joy the Baker has you covered: try the Kale Spinach Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie.

Plus, there are tons of recipes that are perfect for this chilly Fall weather. I’m thinking of making the Sweet Potato Pie or the Sweet Potato Chocolate Chip Cookies this weekend because, okay, maybe I have a sweet potato problem. Don’t judge me.

If just reading those recipe names doesn’t make you want to buy the book, how about this quote from Emma Stone herself: “Joy is who made me want to bake. Stumbling on her blog was one of the luckiest and most inspirational things that has happened to me. She’s an insanely talented writer and an even better baker.” Listen, I’ve already purchased multiple lipsticks because Emma Stone (and Revlon) told me to, so you’d better believe I’d pick up any cookbook she endorsed.

Celebrity fans aside, Joy the Baker is great. I think this quote from the book sums up her appeal: “If you have the power to coax something beautifully sweet out of your kitchen, it’s as though you have a magic wand in your hands.” Lovely, right? Order a copy from Amazon or IndieBound so you can make some kitchen magic of your own.
