ITEM OF THE DAY Item of the Day: Avocado Saver
Samantha Kirschberg

So this is kind of both a love letter to avocados and an item of the day- the Avo Saver.

Guys, I love avocados! I love avocados so much that I want them all times of the day. Growing an avocado tree is on my list of things to do in life and one of the reasons I’d move to Cali.

It’s usually the deciding factor when I’m out to eat, kind of like pockets on a dress. When I try on a dress and say, “Do I like this?” I slide my hands down. No pockets. No buy. Same with menu items. “Oh, it has avocado. I’ll have that!”

You know that Bagel Bites jingle. (Taken from oldies hit ‘Sugartime’, which I just found out.) Well, I basically just change ‘pizza’ to ‘avocado’ and sing it to myself.

“Avocado in the morning,
Avocado in the evenin’,
Avocado at suppertime!
When avocados are awesome,
You can eat avocado anytime!”

I always wondered what happened to lunch. I mean they have evening and suppertime. Two evenings and no lunch – just weird.

Back to what I was saying- Avocados basically compliment everything. Sandwiches with avocado. Yes! Omelets with avocado. Yes! Mexican food with avocado. Obviously! I hate when I use half of my avocado and the other half goes bad in the fridge. Sometimes I want to save some for later. I don’t like brown avocados and that’s why the Avo Saver is awesome. And it works. Seriously, it saves my avocado. All you have to do is place the avocado half with the pit into the Avo Saver, tighten the strap, and put it in your fridge. Some people also put lime on the avocado to tighten the seal, but I don’t usually have lime hanging around.

So if you’re an avocado lover, like me, I suggest getting the Avo Saver.I swear it works. It’s not one of those things you buy at Bed, Bath, & Beyond and it just sits in your kitchen drawer forever. You can get one on Amazon or probably anywhere kitchen tools are sold. And, hey, it’s also eco-friendly because you won’t have to use a plastic bag or tin foil every time you want to save a half.

  1. in some parts of the country suppertime IS lunch time.
I found this strange. Maybe not that way anymore… but thats what my grandpa told me. and if that jingle is taken from an old song, it would make sense that the writer would be a supper for lunch type.

    • Ohh interesting! But still kind of weird that dinner comes before lunch in the song. Guess they just had to come up with a catchy jingle and they did!

Here is what I was GOING to say:

I feel my love for avocados could rival your love. And to test this I feel like we should have an avocado-off. I don’t know what this would entail except eating a LOT of (obvs not brown) avocados. And that sounds like the best day ever to me. You in?
