This is my most serious Item of The Day yet and guys, you should all REALLY buy this book. Ginny Felch is one of my favorite people in the world and one of the most talented children’s photographers out there, I swear.
I started working with Ginny in high school and she became something of a mentor to me over the years. She taught me so much and I am very grateful for all the time I got to spend with her.
Her story is one of serious inspiration.
Ginny began her love affair with photographing kids after she had her son Zach. Like most new mommies, she wanted to capture every moment of her precious son’s life. She took pictures everywhere and developed a love and truly unique style with her work.
In a devastating car accident in 1990, Zach passed away at the age of 16. This tragedy took so much away from Ginny. And in the following years, she had a difficult time taking pictures again. After a few years away from the camera, she began working on a book called Photographing Children. That book went on to be an incredibly high seller at Amazon and her business flourished. She’s been photographing since.
Her work and books have inspired so many people, including myself. Her passion, excitement and love of photographing children is seen in every image she captures. It is her life story and her appreciation for the most tender and beautiful moments in a child’s life that separates her work from others in her field. Ginny taught me so much that has stuck with me to this day and that will be with me always. I cannot imagine a more incredible woman. She taught me about hard work, passion, beauty and grace. But I think the greatest lesson I took from her is that no matter what happens in your life, there is always a silver lining.
