ITEM OF THE DAY Item Of The Day: LL Bean Duffel Bag
Andrea Greb

I love travelling.  Unfortunately, I hate packing and the two seem to go hand-in-hand.

Fortunately, packing can be a lot more fun if you have an adorable bag in which to put your things.  Until recently, I did not.  In fact, until recently, I’d never purchased my own luggage.  I have a monogrammed L.L. Bean rolling duffel bags in multiple sizes and colors, and they’re great for longer trips (or just carrying all of your dirty laundry home from college), but they’re not ideal for weekend trips, which I’m trying to take more of.  My default ‘short trip’ bag was a green Samsonite bag designed for children (I’ve had it since I was seven).  Obviously I was long overdue for an upgrade.

I’ve been wanting a LeSportsac Large Weekender for years now, and I am so glad I finally bought one.  (Fun fact about LeSportsac; my mom had one of their diaper bags when I was little, so for the longest time I thought the brand just made diaper bags, it was not until college that I discovered they made awesome bags for everyone and became obsessed.)  It comes in a bunch of super colorful prints (or black, if you prefer your luggage to be subtle and timeless, which I do not).

I can officially vouch for the perfection of  the size of this bag for weekend trips.  On a recent three day jaunt, this bag managed to contain all of the required outfits (a few dresses, some shirts, a pair of jeans, workout clothes that were never worn), three pairs of shoes, toiletries, an extra purse, and had room to spare for everything I bought on the trip (t-shirt, shoes, another purse).   I’m going to venture to say that the name might be a bit of a lie, and that this is also an ideal weeklong summer vacation bag, since all you need for those are bathing suits, some sundresses and a spare pare of flip flops.

This bag is pretty much always available on the Lesportsac website, though I scored mine on eBay for quite a bit cheaper.

  1. I’m confused…is the item of the day the LL Bean bag or the LeSportsac bag?
